DPL and ECRL players will get offers if they put in the work. No question. Will they get a full ride to D1, no, but neither so most GA or ECNL players.

We have a family friend whose D plays in a D1 sport headcount sport (they can only give 100% scholarships, no 1/2 or 1/4 or anything else). She is playing the 100% of the time as a freshman. What they did for her was give her 100% for her LAST 2 YEARS. So her first 2 years there she got nothing. I guess it is a smart thing since a lot of athletes stop playing after a year or two. Soccer is different because they can give partials, but still, you wonder how many actually get 100%

It’s important to focus on grades as well. Our daughter got a combined athletic and merit full ride to a university that stacks.

It's like a bell curve. Almost no one gets 80%+ and that would only be a stud soccer or starting GK. The bulk is in the 35-65% range, some get 25% or less, even zero.

The family in your scenario takes a big risk that it will all work out, the player doesn't quit or have a career ending injury

Did your player attend the camp? My daughter said it was a complete waste of time. What was your opinion?

Yes she did, said it was fun and she enjoyed the 3 college coaches that were on her field engaging with the group. Was able to get a good goal in the scrimmage and now following up with emails. Got to say I was impressed with the numbers of schools at the clinic and the event overall. It's growing and trending positive. Little rain on the last day which wasn't fun but overall happy enough.

Always interesting to see other perspective on this board but it's clear the clubs that care about their 2nd team respect what the DPL teams are doing. Its a very good option.. Other clubs I feel just want a patch without having to even care about the players. And I'm saying that about a friend of mine who's club is no longer in DPL because it's cheaper elsewhere but in reality they don't care about the teams and standard of play and are know just in a local NAL league. Its sucks.

they are lucky that they are rich and do not need any of the money, but I agree with you. Some people are locked in even if they hate what they are doing

When the local DPL teams go back to league play, DPL sucks at least as much. A few good teams, many lopsided matches. And the good DPL and NAL teams go to the same big tournaments - Jeff Cup, PDA, etc. They have access to the same college ID camps. One DPL event is really not a differentiator.

Both have teams that are much better than ECRL, though, and with less travel for practice and games.

Good players with good grades will have many more options. Plus merit grants are often bigger than athletic money and they stick all 4 years as long as you maintain a reasonable GPA. Outside the Big 5 conferences athletic money is year to year + a player might quit due to burnout or lack of PT.
