Clubs are about more than just who has the best teams. Its college placements, tournaments, how they interact with their community. SUSA has some really good teams but they're also not well liked in NY due to business practices.

Truth! There’s too many insiders pulling strings in what can be on its face a subjective game, but like chess there are different levels of understanding at work and it’s not entirely clear we have the most intelligent folks at the controls. Just because you know how to play doesn’t mean you see the next move, just because you see the next move doesn’t mean you can see and evaluate other simultaneous options and pick the best one, just be pick the best of many options doesn’t mean you see the future options each move affords you, etc.

At the u15 and younger level, it's a myth that national scouts pull players for YNT. It’s 100% club Director recommendation. And those directors have discovered it’s a great way to make extra money. Or reward their favorites. Or attempt to retain a middle of the pack player. Or some other politics. Merit doesn’t really come into it at this age range.

Agree that it’s DOC recs but disagree that it’s heavily political. Look at kids that went to ID camps and track their progress. Not a 100% hit rate but good percentage of kids that get called in multiple times or end up all Americans or go D1.

DOCs would lose credibility if they send undeserving kids. Credibility is what allows them to place kids at colleges. They would undermine their whole business model.
