Now you can see on rosters and on news feeds from schools which schools regularly use the transfer portal. This is the last of 5th year seniors moving schools for a masters degree. Some schools take like 2 a year and transfer kids transfer to play not to earn their way up so it makes it more difficult for existing players. So look at who transfers in and how many kids they retain.

My son is a 2025 on an established MLS team with many uncommitted 2024 players. Good to great colleges are at the games regularly. He has talked to some schools but not sure he should go to specific college ID camps or if that is a waste of money. Parents don’t really talk about the process so I thought I would ask on an anonymous site to get some guidance. Thank you in advance.

Cattle call camps are useless unless you just want to get comfortable with the process of “camp”. Target the schools he is interested in, go to their specific camp and meet the coaches, tour the campus, check out facilities and move on from there. You will know pretty quickly which schools have a genuine interest, which ones are considering your kid a backup plan, and which aren’t interested at all. Just one families experience.

If a coach from a specific school (that your son wants) comes to see him then asks him to attend I'd seriously consider it. Have the club coach reach out to see if it's genuine interest. A coach will want to see him multiple times before making an offer or doing a visit.

agree that the multiple school ones are a waste unless he wants to get the experience and see where he fits. Do one, then focus on specific schools

Another TS Club parent who doesn’t understand college soccer. College soccer is about winning, not developing, not playing time for all existing 30 plus players. It’s simple college coaches will play those players who will help them win matches. This idea of yours that transfers hurt playing time for existing players means those existing players are not reliable and the coach does not trust those players in important conference matches. Coaches bring in players who have experience and have shown they could immediately start and add depth to specific positions that are lacking on the team.

How involved is the coach? Does the club help with recruitment? I heard at Revs they prioritize players when a coach is coming to watch that specific player. They also have a staff person that is in charge of college recruiting. I am not seeing this at my kid’s club.

If a player knows a coach is coming to watch they need to talk with the club coach about the timing. At showcases they try to give each player at least a half and will.tell them which half/work it out so the kid plays when the coach will be there. Especially at events coaches don't have time to stay for a whole game
