So no, you did not hit her situation at all.
It was the attack on a perfectly reasonable and logical sentence about compromise that had all the popular qualifiers (and, of course, the obligatory reference to rejecting Ivy interest) that tipped me off, but this over-the-top response to a pretty friendly response is kind of the definition of being defensive. I'm happy that your daughter is happy with her choice.

When do NESCAC women's soccer players report for captain's practices?

BS. The fact that you assumed you had nailed the situation speaks for itself. You didn't. Instead of just saying my bad, you double down. tipped you off? You sound like Columbo.

Can we agree that there is a difference between D1 and D3 players?

Which D1? Sure top 20 program maybe, my is D at Colby, which is a NESCAC school, and an elite program. Ivy was an option of course, considering her test scores, but Hanover just isn’t cold enough. Fact: she had D1 offers, but she wanted Maine. D3 by choice

Most high school kids have zero idea which schools are what division until the parents start searching the internet looking for a way to recoup all the money they spent on youth soccer. Or, their club is painting the narrative because they want their recruiting posts to look good. Many kids on d1 rosters with little or no scholarship and little to no game time and yet they are fine with that because they are fulfilling a dream based on someone else’s narrative.

                    Well said.
With all the great programs and the diverse mix of needs that define best fit for each family, there is no reason to ever utter the words “Coulda gone..”

I had a coach tell me my then 12 year old could play D1. They were my first serious player but even I knew it was laughable.

Few parents mutter those words, just the insecure ones. Most just want their kids to land at a good academic and soccer fit for them.

This post is very inaccurate. If your D had no idea which school was in what division, then she wasn't very serious about athletics OR academics for that matter...

This is a very sad post if this what you think. It’s sad that’s your narrative, truth and reality. In my universe the parents and players are very much informed and vette colleges for both academics and soccer. The hard part is a balance of both as well as being realistic about your child’s abilities on the field and her education. Of course the financial portion is also a major consideration. Parents for the most part really start the vetting process by ninth grade when you can start to be realistic about your daughters talent.

Not the poster but I think some families definitely go into the process not fully understanding 1) what a D1 commitment really means 2) where their kid realistically fits both skill wise and mentality wise 3) what they want schools wise. They learn as they go along.

Because of #3 the sooner families at least start looking at a variety of schools the better. I say start summer going intonHS. Do some locals while on vacation, school days off or traveling for tournaments. See if the kid wants big, small, urban rural, certain majors etc. Then they build their school target list off that, layered with soccer fit on top of that. If they really want a big school experience but realistically are a D3 player that's going to be tougher to find.

You missed the point. I am saying recruiting for too many families starts with a PARENTS list of D1 schools. No 14 year old kid is looking at half of the New England D1 schools and thinking that is their dream school. The vast majority have no clue what their major will even be. In fact, if you told them that Holy Cross, UMass Lowell, Bryant, Fairfield, Merrimack were D3 schools, then they would not be on the list of possibilities. No disrespect to any of those schools intended.
