Originally posted by Unregistered View PostFreedom of speech is not a certain right in all situations. For example, shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater. In this case, government can not tell McCaffrey she can't tweet, but her college team can.
What McCaffrey did is perfectly within her right to do so. What BC did is perfectly in their right to do so. The responses to what McCaffrey did are well within their rights to speak out against it. Free speech allows you to speak your mind. However, if you are under someone else's domain then they have the right to determine how they want their house represented.
On another note, free speech seems to have taken a back seat to what others consider racist comments (see multiple examples in European soccer), which apparently is not part of free speech anymore, as cases are now being prosecuted in the public domain. If this is the case (and it is) then we are now saying that anything that specifically offends a specific group is no longer allowed i.e. free speech is no longer.
I do agree that we have become a hyper-sensitive people.

I think it's a stretch to suggest the US cultural or legal climate on the subject has reached the same extreme of policing morality in speech as FIFA or the UK (or throughout the EU). Not saying we aren't headed in that direction though. To that extent, your point is quite valid.

Am I too assume, based on your assertion of the ACLU, that if a white man used word 'nigger' that the ACLU would defend the whiter person's ability to say that?? Did you just wake up from a long coma?

Another example is Hope Solo, she speaks the truth, that's why people can't stand it. So they call her a classless #itch. In my opinion, keep talking.
