I think it does lack class. It is also up to BC to do what they want regarding punishment. Although in one regard, it is ingenuous to place a punishment without a warning about the rules. I suspect that there were no rules stated about this prior to entering college. Hopefully she has learned something and would recognize what she actually did and not in any way challenge the decision.

As for Facebook, Twitter, and the like, I would like to think that people, young and old, will finally realize what might happen when you put something out in the public forum. Thirty years ago when you had something to say you would just say it to your friends (hopefully). They were a natural filter as they would either support or not support what was said. In today's world, it appears that the filter has been vanquished and, I believe arrogantly, people actually think that the rest of the world is just waiting to hear what they have to say.

These technical modalities are best used for communication and reconnecting, and not necessarily for bandstanding and spouting out your every thought so that the world will revere you. It does not work that way. You have to assume that there is always someone out there that is not going to see eye to eye with you. If you can have an intelligent debate then great. These tweets were neither intelligent, nor something that needs to be discussed on any level. They lacked real intellect and lacked any insight.

I am curious, however, as she was so quick to tell the world what she thought, has she now gained insight and has regret for tweeting these? If so, then where is her apology-tweet???

Note the headlines stating he was suspended from the team. Looks like he is back on the roster now.
You think that incident can be equated to McCaffrey's tweets???

          No, it's all Obama's fault...

...including the Great W's disastrous presidency, Obama was working behind the scenes convincing Condeleeza Rice that Sadaam actually had WOMD's, so he's responsible for the 6,000 dead Americans and the 30,000 injured and all the time he was photoshopping his birth certificate while thinking about the tweets he would send as McCaffrey....talk about multi-tasking!

I find this highly unlikely in this day and age.

My daughter get's the speech about social media every year in HS.

When she did Regional ODP they got the speach there too.

I'm sorry but what happened to freedom of speech?? Unless she signed something specifically saying she could not publicly express personal opinions when she joined the team, then this was the wrong punishment.

Agreed - I think I read that Penn State people contacted BC athletic dept to complain. Many people here don't understand Twitter, do they?

Not sure why (probably from what I've read here), but when Chan. 7 teased a BC women's soccer player is in trouble, the first thing I thought was, I bet it's SM.

Scroll down. There is an apology written there to whomever "Carolyn" is.

Freedom of speech is not a certain right in all situations. For example, shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater. In this case, government can not tell McCaffrey she can't tweet, but her college team can.

Id thought I heard that this was not her first offense and that she had been asked to stop after a few previous and somewhat similar instances?

You have got to be kidding. You cant have a rulebook that covers EVERY situation. She used poor judgement and is getting the RIGHT punishment
