It went public because she has a public twitter account followed by (is presume) many people.

This wasn't a private account, this was a public account meant to be read by all.

I'm sure she is mortified that she is not playing, I doubt she is mortified by the tweets.

We understand that some accounts are public. But do you really think PSU players and community are scouring the twitter accounts of the next game's team? I doubt it.

Sorry, but the right does have closer to a "proprietary position on stupidity." And it is beyond my comprehension that folks like McConnell and the others hell-bent on filibustering their way through 4 years (and now 8) are not called out and held accountable. And they are allowed to act like they are the true patriots?

Take this theme to the politics thread, but before you do maybe, just maybe, if the minority party is given no means to particpate in government, filibustering might be the only means of amending legislation today. The system is broken, needs to be fixed and you and I are the ones suffering because of it.

I don't think Bacon was even addressing the actual rapes, but the school's handling of those rapes. This seems to be what got her in trouble. Don't mock Penn State and think you'll get away with it. Frankly, I have no problem with Penn State being mocked for the dispicable handling of what happened there.

This would not be your view if this was your school. Over 40,000 kids attend PSU with a faculty in the thousands. Almost every single one of them had absolutely nothing to do with what Sandusky did (which would have happened at whatever school Sandusky happened to coach at). The PSU coaches/administrators involved are either dead or playing a heavy price (as they should). None of that excuses the player in the least. As I sadi before, if she really does harbor a legitimate critique and some thoughts on the subject worthy of consideration I am sure the BC newspaper will be glad to elicit an editorial from her. I trust that she has a deep and abiding commitment to the cause of child sexual abuse, and I'm sure her undergraduate studies reflect that.

The real victims are the girls who have to go and represent BC soccer on the field today. Imagine how hard it will be for them to shake this off and focus on the task at hand. And I'm sure everyone at the stadium will be working to further distract them in case they are not. Gives new meaning to the word "Away game"

Sure, tell your daughter the AD is guilty of very poor judgment. She is a victim. Just go on thinking that as she grows up and does things like represent a fine sports team and school, she bears no accountability for her actions. Right?!

BTW, I'm no BC fan, but good job AD. Handled this better so far than Amherst or Penn State did.

No, I am strictly an onlooker and as a result have no bias to either school or the players involved. I stand by previous post. The punishment does not fit the crime. I have to wonder if the same punishment would apply if the transgression was by a male athlete on the football or basketball teams at BC. Somehow I doubt it.

You didn't really just call the Republican party the minority and powerless with respect to legislation, did you? The real concern is that there are so many folks like you out there who I'm sure just look like regular, very very fortunate neighbors who have such poorly self-analyzed views. It really is a marvel of nature what the mind can allow us to think and do.

I, for one, will be using this as another example for my 12 year old as to why social media needs to be used with EXTREME caution (I include texting in my talks with her...). The list is growing for the examples that I have been able to give her for reasons why FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. can be a source of much grief.

My friend's 17 year old son was kicked off his hockey team for having a picture taken at a party where there was a beer in the background of the picture. He didn't have it in his hand, no evidence of his drinking (although he probably was...) and someone put a picture up on FB that was discovered. And poof! Hockey season done.

To me, this is an example of a young person doing something extremely stupid and clearly showing a lack of judgement... However, to make judgements on her character, etc... is ridiculous. A very tough lesson for her to learn.

I would never allow my 12 year old to even have access to social media.

If you read the many X-rated comments from the girls from Stars and Scorps from a couple of years ago, this really should not shock anyone. Throws-ins to the face, twitter "jokes" about pedophiles, etc. These are not isolated incidents, it is the culture of girls soccer.

At least the girls who are treated as super stars and feel entitled to trash others they consider their inferiors.

If I were a member of the PSU student body or faculty, I would not be offended by what McCaffrey, a student athlete headed into a big game with my home team, posted, because as you say, I had absolutely nothing to do with what Sandusky did. I can place the comments in their proper perspective without getting my panties in a twist.
