Things to keep in mind from an experienced dad:
    1. You won’t get this time back with your kid.
    2. Don’t make your relationship all about soccer.
    3. The starters today aren’t necessarily the starters tomorrow.
    4. The benchwarmers today aren’t necessarily the benchwarmers forever.
    5. Make sure your player connects with the coach. Ignored players do not develop.
    6. To the coaches: Tall middleschool girls who are developed and looking more adult and mature, are done growing. Don’t be dismissive to the smaller girls just starting puberty. They are insecure, then lanky, fall a lot, run weird, then start putting on muscle and gaining confidence. Don’t cut those player or count them out if they have technical skills and work hard. They always surprise coaches later.
    7. Be sure your kid is finding balance. Mental health, school work, social life, family, church, More to life than soccer.
    8. Multi sport familes: Choose one sport to play competitive at the highest level your kid wants to play. The other sports should be fun and an outlet like rec level. Trying to schedule practices and games for two or three high level travel or club teams burns out your kid.
    9. Mult-child parents: Don’t spend all your money and time on the one promising star. The family should not revolve entire life, money, travel, conversation, and routine of the day on one possible star. Your other kids will hold on to that and it will cause resentment.
    10. Parents/ don’t forget date nights. Your kids will grow up and leave you. You need to have more to your life than your kids games.
Our coach cut my kids teams 2nd string striker. Yesterday the first string striker tore her ACL.

Now we're screwed because the striker our coach cut has already found a home at a rival club.

Funny how things work out sometimes.

      Good list.

On my kids 2010 team there's a forward who's really good but small and able to make moves the bigger players can't. Our coach loves her but with a 5'1" mom and a 5"5" dad we all know where things are going to end up. Shes obviously full grown playing against "children". The advantage won't last but if makes people happy now whatever.

Do you recommend that the kid who can’t make the moves play instead of the kid who can?

The girls who stop growing at 5-1 or less have to have phenomenal foot skills, speed and aggression. They can be successful but they have to work much harder and they do get passed over. If you are looking a middle school girls look at the moms. They need to stand at 5-5 or taller on the side line. Those girls have height and time to grow. But being average or above average height is only part of the equation. The kid has to be hard working, committed, fit, strong, likable, coachable, good attitude…

There’s nothing to recommend it’s just interesting to watch. Everyone knows that others players are going to grow into their bodies and surpass this player. But for now they bring wins. The most telling factor is that when the team plays up against older players the 5’1” player struggles where the bigger players aren’t any better or worse then when they play against teams their own age.

Limited positions for the littles too. Outside back and outside mid only really. Cant play the middle

Even fewer positions for kids without speed, foot skills, or pass accuracy.

The North Shore team is very good. Have they remained entact since the “controversy”?

Yes, great leadership from the bench. Well done.

How does that work? I know the north shore team has high level talent but do they just show up on game day and get big minutes? Do some start? I know the talent is there but it seems like a tricky situation.
