If it’s for this year (immediate switch) it is written, if for next year it is verbal. Written contracts for newcomers happen at about the same time as contracts for returning players. A little before actually so that the club knows how many to keep from the bottom of its roster. They only verbally offer spots to no-brainers. Otherwise they hedge their offer some in case the recruiting brings in other, better players.

Few want to drive to Lancaster.
Even fewer trust the Stars coaches or want to deal with the awful Stars culture.
That said, both teams are in a state of flux - as normal for GA teams when they approach U14/15.
So how about it, Scorpions coaches?
We all know you're desperate for some top end talent.
Why should the best NEFC and SSS players move to your club?
(Its not like the commute to Taunton is fantastic.)
And please don't lean 100% on the ECNL patch.

Curious…. What is the “awful Stars culture”. Can you be more specific?
White: abusive. manipulative. the place good Blue players go to retire after getting screwed over because a Blue coach found a shiny new toy (who in turn will end up on White in 6 months).
Blue: much better coaching. not abusive. truly don't give a damn about any player. claim merit-focused but heavily political/money oriented. girls are rivals/enemies, not teammates - but can you blame them, really?

Blue coach just spent the winter scouring the futsal courts. Heavily recruited at least 4 NEFC players promising starting roles. At least 1 SSS player too. That's 5 players minimum offered starting roles. What about the current 5 Blue starters? You know the ones that were offered year-long contracts? What about the 5 girls on the bench behind them? Mind you - this is MID SEASON. Does this coach give a damn about any of them?? Obviously not.

My kid is a HS aged Stars Blue ECNL player. She’s very close with her teammates. When you say the coaching for White is “abusive”, you’re talking about one coach (SM is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea), but he doesn’t actually coach the older ECNL teams. I would agree that Blue coaching is stronger—specifically GB and JD (although JD only has the one team at this point). And playing for the Blue coaches isn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows—expectations are very high and it’s very competitive, but that’s what prepares these kids to compete in college. It’s not for everyone. The most unhappy kids I have seen throughout my kid’s time at the club are the ones who have parents that are overly invested and are pushing their kid down a path that they don’t necessarily want.
As for the claim that Blue players are on rosters because of politics/money—not at the recruiting ages. A kid that doesn’t have the talent to be there would be exposed VERY quickly.
Take it for what it’s worth, but many of the in depth descriptions of the Stars “culture” on TS comes from parents who don’t have a kid at the club.

Thats the beauty of competitive sports. You don't keep your place due to seniority. If someone else is better, they get the nod. (although that shoots down the politics narrative being pushed above). Id hope all ECNL and GA teams are run this way.
BTW, those 'year long' contracts do not guarantee a starting position, playing time or even suiting up for games. Read them.
