Not interested in Men's Div 3 soccer. Are the Massachusetts team made up of players from other states outside of Massachusetts and New England? My guess is these players who good players, however not great players on their high school or club teams?
I chuckle when I read the Women's Div 3 soccer thread!

There are many Massachusetts players on Amherst, Williams and Brandeis teams still playing in NCAA Tournament all of which were top DAP/Club/HS players from Mass and many more through out the New England Region playing D3 (about 10X more than the 12 to 15 playing D1 each year). Many DAP/top Club/All State Mass players play D3 so don't knock it. Go watch a NESCAC or Brandeis or Babson game before you choose to "chuckle" at the D3 game. The D3 teams take it as seriously as the D1 teams. Good luck to the three teams named above still alive in the D3 NCAA Tournament.

All them were club players.
Ha ha...that is such a joke. Keep believing that. No student playing at Amherst this weekend could crack any of the line-ups on any New England D1 teams including Holy Cross and Bryant.

You are fool for making such a total statement. Do you believe that there has been no DIII player that could play DI??
Is this your feeling for all sports?

So here is what i KNOW about men's colege soccer:
Its a game for big boys, not those persistent little children whose helicopter parents feel the need to continue to show up to forums to disparage the little boys who managed to keep themselves on elite clubs rosters only to find the didn't have the discipline and work ethic to succeed at the college level.
This applies to D1, D2, and D3 soccer.
This is not to bash all of those great players who came up through the same elite clubs and who also turned into men once they left high school.
But let's be serious...I can fill two hands without trying while counting out elite club (including DAP players) who have yet to crack a D3 colllege starting lineup after years of trying.
I've seen several of the top D3 teams play this year alone. Amherst, Messiah, and a number of others- as well as many more excellent teams at the next lower level.
If you think that the better players at the D3 level would not help many of the weaker sisters in the already weaker D1 leagues such as the Patriot league, I really don't know what to tell you. The impact all-conference players at the D3 level could easily play at many D1's.
Note that I didn't say they would start in the ACC...
Get a clue

So are you saying players "at Amherst College" turned down athletic scholarships at schools like BC, BU and Northeastern to attend Amherst?
If that's the case should the other 3 teams even show up this weekend? Is there any way we can get this team an at-large bid in Div 1 NCAAs?

Reading for comprehension? The poster clearly refers to Holy Cross, Bryant, etc. No ACC school mentioned. BU? That might be another story.

A couple of points....
First, look out for Brandeis. A great season and a very, very cohesive team. Would not be surprised to see them win 2 games here. Amherst and Williams obviously have a home field advantage, but Brandeis comes in battle-tested after going through the very good UAA that was awarded 5 NCAA bids.
Secondly, a great group of 4 superb academic schools.
Third, D3 soccer at this level is quite good. I am one who believes that true D1 players play D1, so I am not going to argue that D3 players are really D1 players who just love their academics (as there are plenty of top-flight D1 academic schools including all of the Ivies, Duke, Stanford, UCLA, the other ACC schools, William and Mary, the Patriot league schools, etc, etc). That said, while perhaps a hair slower and/or smaller, the skill level is quite high regardless of what you read on this site. There are MANY very good players with high level club pedigrees who get little to no time on their D3 teams, and some of the top D3 performers from MA are kids who would have been ranked anywhere from 10 to 30 among kids in their classes in the state. Two of Brandeis' top contributers are sophs who were All-New England. The competition for playing time at these schools is fierce with razor thin differences between the kids playing and those who rarely get in games. The time commitment also is huge, and especially at these higher end schools the kids have heavy and difficult academic loads.
I wish these games were at Brandeis so more people in the Boston area could attend.
