2. most teams treat this as a preseason event to see where they stand, not really to focus on college recruiting
3. this one is probably going to shock you but some of these kids actually love to play and don’t just do it to chase mommy and daddy’s dreams of landing some D1 offer to post about on Facebook. For those kids? No soccer is a “waste of time”. They just love to play. Imagine that!

Clubs hold tourneys to make money. Aztec probably thought the Impact NPL alliance would bring more teams than it did. And NEFC was the better one for coaches to go to as they had more teams playing. Pretty simple. Aztec trying to grow out of swim lane remember they are the one behind Impact NPL.

I was there. Although the coach list was light, I liked the facility and my daughter had fun. Hopefully next year they can get more coaches to attend but it wasn’t bad for a first effort. Our bracket was all Impact teams.

land a college offer at some big time soccer program, from the liw level NEFC event, you are delusional.

It's a way to get ready for the season.
Tournaments give a team a training/motivation goal.

Tournaments make money for the club. One club agrees to go to another clubs tourney so that they will reciprocate. Calling a tourney a ‘showcase’ or ‘invitational’ or anything else is just a marketing hook to make it sound good. Plus kids like tourneys, and the chance to win medals.

1. Not everyone is interested or capable in playing at a school that you deem worthy. For the kid who couldn’t care less about whatever alphabet soup team your kid is bragging about, getting a look by one of the schools at the showcase is just fine.

Who was bragging I think it was just a question and I forgot the kids who attend other tournaments according to you don't like to play. Well thanks Aztec Dad sorry your panties are in a bunch

Without getting into the typical TS name calling and insult hurling, I have never been able to understand the posters who assume that a kid that plays on a high level team and aspires to play at a high level in college can’t possibly “love the game”. Seems like putting in the amount of time and effort required would only happen if they loved playing.

I guess it’s kind of like assuming kids who don’t play ECNL have only one reason not to - skill. Never seems to enter anyones mind that finances, logistics, etc all matter. Much better to bash an Aztec showcase instead.

My D isn’t on a top team because I work long hours and the spouse hates soccer and literally wants nothing to do with it.
Can you imagine if I floated the idea of trying out for ECNL and possibly spending all our vacation money and vacation time at soccer events!! LoL
We’ll stick with being a big fish in a small pond, even though it hurts her development.
