Rescheduling an event this large isn't easy, and many players want to get in front of coaches that aren't close enough for them to come watch league games.

So what. I want a lot to do a lot of things that I can’t do right now. It’s not like last year when we didn’t even know if they would have a spring season. Waiting a few months is not the end of the world vs potential spread of Covid and potentially getting stuck in FL.

For those of you not aware, many colleges are pushing the start of classes out towards the end of the month. They are taking this new spread very seriously. That being said, coaches are weary or being told by the AD not to attend this “Petrie dish” of Covid in Florida of all places. These coaches will then come back and potentially infect their players and other staff when they return to campus. It’s not just about what you want.

The only reason Florida may get punted is due to the number of people calling out sick and the burden that mandatory isolation periods place. It may be tough to get teams down there with so many flight cancellations. The actual illness is not all that bad and nowhere near original covid from last year.

Yes universities want to stay open I totally get that - I want it for my college kid too. But it isn't hard for a coach to work from home for 5 days upon return and get tested. Surely assistants can run the show for a bit? It's January, no games going on right now for D1s let alone D3s. Whatever the call, it needs to happen asap so reservations can be canceled. I heard we may get snow the end of this week to add to the flight miseries.

Clubs are in a tough spot - cancel and some parents will b itch. Go and parents will b itch. They're probably hoping ECNL makes the decision so it isn't "their fault "

Yes and kids have been getting screwed by Covid for nearly two years now. At some point we have to deal with recurring spikes. Assuming your family is vaccinated, you can travel safely - wear an N95 on the plane, bathe in Purell, don't socialize with others (which i know is the fun partner these events but some sacrifice is in order).

The travel issue is the more pressing one. The airports are utter sh++ shows right now

Healthcare workers in RI can now work while actively infected. Healthcare is indoors and does not allow for distancing. So if that can apparently be done safely, why does a soccer coach have to quarantine for 5 days even if he/she is not infected. The rules are becoming more and more arbitrary.

The issue will also become players/teams having to drop out this week as they return to school and some test positive. Some clubs may drop out proactively, especially from the Northeast. And unless they reshuffle the entire schedule so that everyone still has 3 games, it would really suck to just have games forfeited and travel all that way for 1 or 2 games.

And in MI HCW workers can't. So what? Nearly all mandates are local or state, plus whatever employers require. My company has gone back to needing pre approval for travel plus staying at home a few days and testing before returning to the office

This is why they should cancel today! Last year I was more scared of the unknowns of Covid but this year I am more scared of getting stuck in FL with a positive case given the contagious nature of this variant or getting stuck due to airline delays. I have a job and other kids to think about and getting stuck there would cause lots of problems.

Way to miss the point. Ask why are the rules lenient for one group while overly restrictive for another. If you cannot come up with a reason other than ‘because’, you should ask for change. Your life is being affected by arbitrary rules that are more restrictive for playing youth soccer than many other areas of life. It makes zero sense. Feel free to replace ‘youth soccer’ with any other piece of your life that is overly restricted.

Do you really believe these are just arbitrary? goodness. ER doctor here to help you out. The reason they made this change in RI is because if they did not do it, there wouldn't be anyone in the ER to help the car crash victims, heart attack victims, stroke victims, etc. Note that I didn't mention COVID there. Think about that. No one staffing your local ER. That's the only reason they are working with covid. this is not proof that working with covid is ok. No offense to coaches, but your mom isn't going to die because of a car accident just because your daughter's soccer coach is isolating.

See above: it's also why airlines and other businesses strong armed the CDC into changing the isolation recommendation from ten days down to five. THERE'S NOT ENOUGH PEOLE TO WORK. Also, it's for asymptomatic testers. If you have symptoms you're supposed to still stay home.

I posted above - pretty sure if you're symptomatic you still aren't supposed to report in. It's only for asymptomatic people, which many vax'd and boosted people are. They shed a whole lot less virus than someone who isn't vax'd and positive. . RI being a small state no doubt they're short staffed. The state of MI took a different stance. Despite their overwhelmed ERs they want positive employees still staying home for ten days.
