it's called talking soccer. too bad you cant ask questions without getting nasty answers. guess I shouldn't ask about mtoc or high school soccer here either. thanks <quote>

You CAN and should ask questions about clubs that you've heard about and would like to understand better. However, when you pose the original question with pointed phrases like, "...riding high for awhile but now just about gone..." you betray your true agenda. You PRETEND to have done some research, but you somehow missed the U15 State Cup won by the #2 Stars team. You somehow missed the U12 girls finishing #1 and #2 in the top section of Maple, and then one of the teams winning the Irwin cup with a 27-1 aggregate over 6 games while the other lost a close game in the semi-finals. You somehow have never heard of ECNL.

A lot of clubs have these new-fangled things called "web sites." They tell about all the good stuff the club is doing, and while they're clearly sales tools for the clubs, a bright, inquiring mind like yourself should take the time to check them out if you really want to know what's going on at one of the well-known clubs. Or, you could just throw rocks...

#2 beat #1 at scorpion bowl and won SC in pk's to a team that outplayed them. The rest is impressive and for a club that argues to be so far ahead of everybody these are pretty shallow claims.

one stars cup this year. last few years a lot of them. that wasn't riding high?

not sure i ever saw mps win and not much from nefc. did those teams get better or did stars get worse or going away? easy question (i thought).
interested who's doing good in MA including mtoc and high school soccer. i always check the state cups. not sure what agenda that is? seems people have issues. thanks

Stars did not get worse. They pulled their first teams into a National league called ECNL, and they were not competing in State cup this year. The second teams are being developed to compete at a similar level as what teams now known as ECNL left, but it takes time. The exception of BR U15Athletic who won State Cup and who have been at this level for several years.

ECNL teams leaving gave more opportunity to NEFC and MPS at the State Cup. Stars has in no way fallen off the face of the earth.

out of state cup, out of mind. stars and scorps face a more difficult task convincing kids to join than when their top teams entered sc and swept with an obscene goal differential.

Agreed. Which is why a few ECNL posters constantly had to jump on the State Cup threads and remind everyone that it was "not the same game" without them in it. Although I think they used words like, "who cares?" "best teams aren't playing," etc. etc.

To answer the original post. The got greedy, set up multiple teams for each age gruop and split them into several different leagues so one could not be compared to another. Also allowed 4 x revenue so they could basically collect from lower teams and offer 100-80% off for the ecnl teams.

You must not be one of the upper half of the team. Thanks for funding

Wait until your kid get relegated to second plan or don't get college scholarship, then you will be the first one starting another thread on Stars. Did it ever occur to you that the majority of these threads are started by folks that experienced "super-Nova"?

I'd like to know where you got this little tid-bit of information!

I pay the full boat for my daughter to play on one of the Stars ECNL sides. Not complaining, but if I'm the only one paying, that's something I would like to know?

Take a look around your sidelines . Most of the parents are not making enough to afford the Stars ECNL with all the traveling expenses and other incidentals. The more affuent families are playing on the second teams . Very noticible in the last couple of years. There are a few exceptions but this is not the norm. I have been told before they do not like wealthy families because they are not able to control them . The families with less money are more desperate and need the Stars help and will do whatever the Stars want. So some of you are paying the freight for some of the girls on your team. This has been a common practice at Stars.

This is a load of crap. ECNL players pay the same dues, less travel costs than other competitive clubs like NEFC that, even a younger ages (look at current U13s) travel to twice as many out of New England tournaments as Stars. The person above is just some wanna-be looking to stir the pot when they have no first-hand information. We pay full fare and it's not more than it would be at other top caliber clubs. And all clubs will consider offering some scholarship to truly needy, good players. Nothing new there.
