My daughter did. Without being asked to attend. But don't let that ruin your fantasy.

You've got to be kidding. What good high reputation club (ECNL or Not) doesn't require all players to show up at tryouts out of respect for the process and fairness. Disgusting. Tryouts are already tough enough, much less not make it a true fair tryout.

Of course if any of the returning players are cut, then you know what posters would be saying.

To me a fair tryout is one where the 18 players are selected that when brought together and trained will make the best team. Notice I didn't say the best 18 players at tryouts, I didn't say the best 18 athletes. It should be the 18 players when combined with the roles they are expected to play and the progress they are expected to make will have the best chance of success.
There is nothing that a coach is going to see of an existing player in a 1 hour tryout that they don't already know about a player from coaching them all year.

The issue for me isn't that current players don't attend. The issue is that new players don't even try because they know they can't get on an ECNL roster that way. Second team kids are already known entities, despite performance and/or improvement and will never be given a spot so tryouts are just discouraging to them. And outside players looking to get in will never even try to do it simply through a tryout because they know the process. Contact the coach, get seen privately, see if you have what it takes and get your offer. ECNL rosters don't change all that much and the one or two adds that may happen in a year are not picks from tryouts.

How do you know that the new players are good enough to make the team if you don't have your best going against them?

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThis is fact for the FC Stars and probably the Scorpioins also. Players that are at the tryout sessions have already been identified and contacted by the coaching staff, and in most cases have already been practicing with the teams that they hope to play for, maybe even having participated as a guest player in a few games. Not to say a player could not just show up at tryouts and get a roster spot, but that is the least likely scenario.
