Where a D1 team (like Ludlow) can still pull from a large student pool, when you have less than 200 boys (or girls), it's much harder to field a great team. http://www.miaa.net/gen/miaa_generat...erboys0912.pdf

1) Ludlow/Masconomet Ludlow has lived in the finals and has the big game experience. Easy win.
2) CC/GD CC has owned this division for years, but this is not their best team this year. Meanwhile this GD team is the best thing to come out of CMass in a while. GD in a tight one.
3) Georgetown/Sutton Sutton has had a good season, beating a lot of higher Division teams like Nipmuc. I'll take them in a squeaker.
Ludlow 2 Masconomet 1
Sutton 3 Georgetown 1
That's two down, one to go. I'll be at the Div 2 game tomorrow. For those from the state of EMass, I'll be the one with the broom.

And on the girls side (where it matters for soccer!) EMass won D1 & D3.

Ludlow's middle school boys team could play down a man and still beat Peabody by a touchdown.

CC 2-1 (CC = championship swag, this isn't even the best team to come out of GD in the past 5 years)
Georgetown 2-0 (there's a big gap between the East/West in D3, as we saw last year)
1. Good coach.
2. They lose very few athletes to football - Sutton doesn't have football and only a few peel off to play for Oxford HS (though some do run Cross Country which is also traditionally strong).
3. A lot of club players - Fuller Hamlets' home fields are two miles from Sutton HS and Liverpool is situated in neightboring Oxford.
4. Large pool of players - they fielded 40 players on the Varsity and JV combined after cutting 10 or so. The JV squad featured 22 players of which 17 or 18 are club players and of those 6 or 7 play Div 1 MAPLE - U-15 FC United, U-14 Liverpool and U-13 Fuller Hamlets.
Honestly, while the school enrollment is Div 3, the pool size and talent they have to work with is much more akin to a good sized Div 2 program. Incidentally, they lose only 3 seniors and will fill those spots from a large, strong pool of current Freshmen (there were 13 on the JV squad this year - none of them played on the Varsity regularly).
