The weather is another wild card. Nothing like some snow to snarle traffic.

It can be a wild card on the ferries too. If you have a queasy stomach be prepared if the weather is bad.

The list of accepted teams is out and from the looks of it, it is still the predominant College showcase. All of the top u-17's are there from Mass except Scorpions and MPS. Scorpions played MPS tournament last year as a tune up for other venues. MPS has to attend its own tournament, who will they be playing?

This thread is about the NEWSS tournament. This category happens to be the U14 girls and who is going. Hence, the OP. Feel free to post any other teams that have been accepted. Who cares that it's u14?! It's about who's going. You're trying to stir a pot that hasn't boiled!

Best indicator of the future behavior is past behavior and until there is a better history of the u14 girls age bracket the rest of us are saying - we are uninterested in reading the endless dribble.

Disappointing list of college coaches. Maybe it's still a bit early and things will improve?

Oh you U16-17 parents still praying that your little Mia will justify the thousands you have spent on club soccer. You don't know all that much more than the U14 parents you seem to talk down to. The quote below is a little piece of advice that just got posted on one of the other tournament threads. It is pretty good advice. If you really understood the game you would not be worrying about the number of coaches that show up at NEWSS. All that you really need are the 4-5 from the schools that your child actually wants to go to school at to show up. You will learn that everything else is nothing more than a distraction.

Second, college coaches have the same travel issues that the families do. Long Island is not exactly easy to get to and from. Third, most of the schools most of the players from around here end up going to are local low level D1 and upper level D3 schools. You don't need to go to a whole lot of tournaments to get them to come see a game. Here's a suggestion, rent out one of the full sized indoor facilities on a Sunday night over the winter. Then invite 3-4 of the best U16 teams in the area to play a couple of friendlies that night. Then invite all of the local coaches the girls on those teams would be interested in playing for to come and watch. I think you will find that a whole lot of those coaches will show up and the players will create more interest from that sort of event than going to NEWSS.

As a site to be seen, NEWSS is decent for most Massachusetts kids, although the timing will exclude some schools. The tournament does occur before the close of the college season and teams that go beyond the first weekend of the the NCAAs (not many) rarely attend. And, some coaches do avoid the tourney because the players at NEWSS can almost always be seen at other times, especially CASL/Raleigh, Disney or PDA. All of which have better NE D1 attendance. One other big problem is that the fields are pretty spead out. This limits the ability of coaches to set up in one location and see dozens of prospects (further limiting its appeal as a showcase). So make sure you give prospective coaches a good and accurate schedule well in adavnce because they will have to specifically highlight your game. But that also means they are unlikely to come to more than one and maybe only a half.

NEWSS undoubtebly has the best competition of any tournament in New York (or New England) and only PDA is clearly better in R1. The problem is the timing and potential for awful weather (expect lots and lots of wind). So I think most teams view it as a chance to get in some games immediately after the HS season and before you have to head inside for the winter (or travel south) but not a superior exposure locale. It is relatively cheap, with no flights necessary and stay over of often only a single night. Hotels in the area are reasonable enough with standard rates about $150 a night. If you set your expectations low, which for this event is really OK to do, you will not be disapointed.
