At a tryout where 75 kids are being evaluated it is pretty tough to figure out who the coaches will choose for a team. Most clubs hold similar age group tryouts on the same days to keep people from shopping around. Usually you don't know who is on the team until you show up to practice the first day(or just after the announcements come out).

Except that there's no one on our team that is exponentially better than the rest of the players. So this theory's good but not what's really playing out on the team.

        4) Head coach is not successful in fixing any of the above issues.

Of course, the "grass always looks greener" in other clubs so thorough research is needed before a move is made.
[QUOTE Very good points! I have experienced all of the above. Also, add less committed fellow team members goofing around in practice and coach failing to fix that early enough.[/QUOTE]

Funny you should mention that. I am currently experiencing exactly these issues with the MPS U12 Bulldogs team!!!

Piece of advice: Firstly, this is not the place to post this. If you have concerns with your coach bring them up directly with him. Some coaches may not like it but others (the level headed ones) would take it constructively. If nothing happens, then consider other options- leaving is not the first thing I would think of. Like the OP say, the grass always looks greener. I know for a fact, other teams, even the Bolts, have had similar issues.

LOL Constructively? Yeah, here's what he'll do (I'm talking about most coaches in general, not this coach necessarily), your son will not make the team next year. How's that for constructive?

Don't do it alone. Lobby other parents to also talk to the coach. If enough parents complain, he'll correct the situation. If not, you're up the creek.

So it's all about the coach and his path of least resistance? I guess it isn't all about development. Especially if you mean development of coach's people skills. Good luck with your team, it sounds like a really healthy environment for 11 year olds.

Bad advice. Do not say anything to a coach unless you wanted to be black listed by the coach and club. Coaches and clubs do not want to hear from you in regards to what you are unhappy with.

The issues you describe should be discussed with the DOC as it sounds like an over scheduled coach. I wouldn't expect a change but at least then you've given them the chance to corrdct the situation. If it doesnt get fixed to your satisfaction then absolutely move to another club. You'll be more informed as a consumer and know to ask how this would work at the new club prior to joining. BTW, keep in mind that all these clubs are businesses and this fact drives much of their behavior. Also, my experience has been there is no correlation between being a strong technical coach and being a strong leader.

You don't talk with the DOC or coach. If you talk with a DOC then you better look for another club, believe you me. It is called black listing. If you are unhappy, then just leave. The only DOC that is pretty laid back and level headed that might listen to you is PB from MPS.

They played blackwatch. Will anyone be able to take down the Blazers? Have they ever lost a league game?
