And lose the tax deduction if she'd been born Dec 31.

        MA 2000 ODP GU12 Pool

If you do reply....please... only if you have had some direct involvement with a kid in ODP - your own kid... preferably at U14 age or above... It's easy to ODP bash if you have a club kid and I do too... $ wasted, dedundent training, ODP not what it was before, etc, I have read those posts... looking for real feedback I guess... so here's the situation...

U12 Fall odp is only $220 for 20 practices, so not a huge commitment, My daugher's a club player for an exceptionally strong club, she's offered an ODP GU12 pool spot, which likely many were, we knew a few girls there who were very good as well yet competition was generally limited to a handful of very good girls maybe 10 of 80. I watched GU13 tryouts and saw a much stronger group there. I saw that in trying out with calendar year (rather than July 31 cut-off) players was a huge advantage and am concerened that the pool will produce a weaker group due to this than club and by playing down in age will be detrimental for her.

That said...I'm wondering if the ODP truely offers something different in individual development... any direct experiences would be appreciated... thanks

It's $220 for 10 fall practices and another $220 for the spring. Originally I was told $150 per session.

Don't forget to add in the travel, etc. This is much more than a financial commitment for a family.

My daughter has had a great experience with ODP so far -- she believes ODP has helped her become a better individual player and gain experience playing different positions. She made new friends and had to establish herself on the field with a new group of players/coaches. She loves her highly competitive club team, but she plays primarily one position there. At ODP she had the opportunity to develop at other positions.

Depending on your goals, the program can be a great supplement and a different type of challenge. Good luck with the decision!

Ditto for my two kids, who have 8 years of ODP experience between them.

No travel. That comes next year. U12s do not go to the Region I tournament or ID camp, so the $440 is all that you pay.

There is nothing wrong with going for it with your child. I'd pay for the fall and wait a little on the spring payment until you can see what the value will be for your child specifically. What I understand is that this is a likely case that a child was Identified in camp or in a tournament as scouting is a rather normal practice. If you look at the website the Id camp (summer camp) is all about identifying the talent. Your child obviously must have what they are looking for in a player. Attitude, strength, speed, field awareness etc...

I would not recommend taking the advice in a forum full of club parents. Plus ask a club manager or coach and they will discourage since it means ODP takes priority. Look at the mass rostering rules for MYSL. ODP generally avoids many conflicts and picks less typical days that club plays. They will however schedule on Saturdays which interferes with local rec and town games.

Travel to practice. Takes a lot of family time. Carpoolin the answer?

Does anyone realize that U12 "ODP" (birth year 2000 or 2001) is just another way for MYSA to take your money? There is no real "pool" of players, no cuts. It's just a Monday night soccer practice out on a field in Lancaster. The so-called ODP scouts have already identified players in this age group by way of watching MTOCs and KC Andre Cup games, MAPLE games, MASC games. ODP knows which players to watch, which players to keep on their radar. ODP know which players they want and ODP knows which clubs those players represent. The kids who get picked up by way of scouting are the ones who will be making the cuts when their older and when it actually matters.

It really is a misnomer to call it ODP. I think it will be a good program for kids who want more/better training they are probably getting, but it really is not ODP at all. I think it dilutes the ODP brand to call it so and the sign of a weakening program to call it such.
