Pretty darn accurate but not in the negative sense like this is meant. ODP is an identification program plain and simple. The objective is to find as many of the top players as can be found. They don't find all of it because all of it doesn't participate in the program. What does show up, the do a pretty good job culling through and picking the ones who have potential. The only real true knock on ODP is that sometimes they are overly optimistic. Unlike what a lot of parents protest, they might miss a player one year but rarely miss talent completely. Now if your child aspires to play soccer at a high club level and perhaps even beyond. if they are good enough, ODP will help them get to that elite level team. The clubs pay attention to who stands out there and starts snapping them up. So the recruiting aspect of ODP is far from a negative. Keep in mind that if you really don't want to move teams you can always say no. Traditionally the ones that post comments like this are the ones left behind.

ODP teams can not even beat top Club Team in age groups. ODP is not worth spending any money on is you play club. They will not get your kid exposed to anyone that counts.

This is the standard response from the parents who haven't a freaking clue what an ID program is. Just understand that these whack jobs went to ODP expecting something that it wasn't.

Any impressions after first session? Other than typical odp sucks rant. I'd be interested to hear from someone who observed the training.

Went to the boys 2000 first practice. In general, it was well done. There's a considerable range in skill set. There were some very good players there, some good players and several average players. My son said that all the coaching lessons/tips were something he already learned back in third grade... but it was a good refresher. But overall- a thumbs up.

I'd say about the same on the girls side. Though far more average girls than very good players. Few players I expected to see were not in the group so not sure this is a true ODP group. I'm looking at it as just some extra soccer for my daughter. The real test will be when these players are 14 and 15 years old.

my daughter was invited to this 2000/2001 program but will not attend as it conflicts with her club training way to closely - I watched yesterday's (monday - 9/12) groups and also noticed kids absent who stood out at clinics and tryouts - for odp to be successful they'll have to work with clubs not against them, for us if practices were Saturdays like the G13s have this year we'd have stuck it out...

Agree here. There were definitely some standout soccer players from this age group who were not in attendance. and definitely some mediocre players who shouldn't be there.
