i think gloucester is 1-2, i am pretty sure they beat Salem like 5 or 6 to nothing. I think they will be an ok team, just started out with a couple tough teams.

I don't know what team you're watching, Gloucester is an awful team.

L-S girls looked very good against a strong C-C team last night.

Talked to a friend who watched the A/B vs. Peabody game. They said it was a pretty even match. Both sides played agressive and physical, at times almost out of control. In the end it was the top talent on the Peabody side that made the difference, but the short small field also played into the result as there was very little midfield play and lots of over the top clears by both teams solid defensive lines - and that seemed to be to Peabody's advantage.

Based on early results (especially the big win by L-S) I think it is going to take a couple of weeks to shift out the conteders from the pretenders in D1 North. I think the DCL (whatever the alignment might be) is an open field and this could be the year that someone finally knocks A/B out of the top spot. Here is my new top 5 for D1 North:

              1. Central Catholic
              2. Peabody
              3. Lincoln-Sudbury
              4. Masco
              5. Winchester

BTW, this is probably the first time in maybe 5-6 years that A/B is out of the Top5 in d1 North!! But my guess is that they will be back by the end of the season...

I know Shrewsbury should not have won districts last year but what the heck happen? They did not have a huge graduation turnover. This doesn't brew well for Wachusett who lost 12 seniors and 9 starters.

In the Globe online sports it says #3 Peabody beats #5 AB. Where is the complete list of the to 25 ?

Curious to see where you go with this next. Most of these teams have only played 1 or 2 games. How often will you change your predictions, and are the predictions really credible if you keep changing them all of the time?

                          Comment

you must be new here. nobodys predictions are more credible then HSH. but she also understands that it is early and she stays involved and updates. i wouldnt challenge the most informed person on here.

Are you confusing ranking relative strength right now with predictions of how the season will end?

                              Comment

My in season rankings are intended as snap-shots based on current results. There may be some predictive value, but the early ones are very random.

Central Catholic retains the top spot based on their D1 championship last fall and the fact that they have yet to be beaten. I believe strongly that you keep the #1 until someone knocks you off. They face Danvers later this week and it could happen then (Danvers was the only team to beat them last year).

Peabody has a core group of Jrs that have a great deal of experience and carry on a winning tradition. It wasn't surprising that they would beat A/B, especially at home.

Lincoln-Sudbury has been an under-acheiver the last few years (or maybe just over-rated) But they have a great demographic, lots of club players and the win against a well regarded Concord-Carlilse gives them a current upper hand on DCL rivals Westford and A/B.

Masco has always been a favorite of mine. A very consistent program that tends to replace departed talent with comparative players. That is my expectation for this year. They have 3 games in 4 days against solid opponents (Pentucket, Andover and B. Feehan) and that will be tough.

The choice of Winchester at #5 was a bit of a "pick-em". It could have easily gone to some others like Westford, Newton North, North Andover or A/B. The Middlesex League was once a premier venue. I think it has lost some and I continue to believe that Winchester should have opted to play in its appropriate D2, but their "in-town" club program and tradition always make them the team to beat in the ML. 1-0-1 against Wakefield and a resurgent Stoneham is a good result.
