It is so obvious in this forum when there are first time soccer parents commenting in this forum. The parent foaming at the mouth over in the U14 and Sars (sic) threads is obviously another first timer. Don't think that one will make it to a second round either since he's so worked up over thinking the Stars have slighted his daughter I expected it's just a matter of time before he has a coronary.

Interesting result out of the NEC with Beverly topping Gloucester 4-2. Beverly has struggled the last couple of years and Gloucester was viewed as the clear favorite in the NEC Small (Beverly is in the large) and a sort of sleeper in D2 North. Gloucester should still walk away with the ultra-weak NEC "small" title but lets see how the fare against teams like Danvers and Peabody as part of their beefed up "non-league" schedule. I think they have Danvers at home on Friday night. That would usually be viewed as an automatic W for Danvers, but with the Falcons losing a very strong class and Gloucester returning most everything - this year was expected to be different. Great sign for Beverly which has a good youth program and the type of size and demographics that usually lead to girls HS soccer success. They were a very strong program through the 90's and maybe things are turning around for them.

this is probably the single most uninformed statement by obviously a fan of LB.
He was more likley one of the worst coaches I have encountered in a while.
His lack of understanding of the game was appauling and even worse his management of
young players was destructive at best.
MPS maybe woke up. Good luck to whoever is employing him.

I think Concord Carlilse returns the League's best player, and in HS soccer that can carry you a great deal. But A/B remains the favorite until someone knocks them off. They lost some solid contributors but their feeder system is so strong that its hard to imagine them not being right in the middle of any title race. They do lack that single player that can change a game in an instant (with all due respect to the opinions of the Globe West reporter) and that will hurt them, especially in the tournament - but they will have the league's deepest talent. Westford and L/S will also challenge. No surprises there. Westford had the best run in the tourney, including a PK win over A/B, and they can build on that this year. Wayland and Weston will be solid (for their respective sizes) but its tough to be a really good D2 or D3 entry in the state's best league.

I can't get a straight answer on how the new look DCL will operate. My guess is that loss of Arlington and Tyngsboro will make for odd scheduling. For example AB only plays Newton South, Bedford and Latin once, but the rest twice. However, it is impossible to tell if some of those second games are actually considered non-league as Westford A shows a different schedule with Weston once (NS twice) and more true non-league games (North Andover, Chelmsford and Andover). Maybe someone closer to the scene can articulate how the conference alignment and schedule will work this year!!
