    Getting ready for Turkey Day!

Whats to say? New coach took a team that won one game in two years to the semi-finals of class C. Might be disappointing for the seniors, but at least they may be able to look back at a season that was the start of a new era in Girls soccer at SM. (As some of the critics have stated, "At least they are playing something that resembles soccer."

My daughter reports that with some of the campus tours she has given at school this fall, and comments made from prospective parents/students, things are only going to get better.

Good luck to all the teams today in the finals.

Everybody have a healthy and joyous Thanksgiving and looking forward to next season!

The Governors keeper made several spectacular saves, particulary as time wound down in the second overtime. Governors finished and won and good luck to them today.
We are agreed that it was well played. A middie didn't drop into coverage as the ball was played on the Rivers score. Semantics on the corner kick. Should have said "from" the corner, but was trying to shorten the narration. Rivers did not dominate anything in that game. On the contrary the Govs midfield shut the vaunted Rivers scoring machine down with only a couple of long range (albeit strong) shots from distance. Rivers did have an unusually large advantage in corners but were unable to mount any attack from them. I think you've forgotten the shots Govs did have on goal, but were met with equally inspired play by the Rivers Goalie. Different perspectives from different sidelines.

Give Govs credit. Rivers totally beat them last time 3-1 but yesterday Govs played with way more energy and effort. Won a lot more of the 50-50s than the first game. But the headline was Rivers' forwards simply could not finish. Many shots almost point blank. The Govs keeper was very good all day and brilliant on a couple saves but Rivers really should have finished a couple shots (I think 3 hit the crossbars). And like in the NFL where turnovers kill you, in soccer, getting 9 corners and not scoring on any of them will usually come back and haunt you and Rivers could not finish any of those.

Congrats to Worcester on their first Class A Championship. And finish the season undefeated. Not bad for a team missing 7 starters.

I heard through the soccer grapevine that the reason Rivers lost is they chose to protect the lead and play defensively. How many times have you seen a team lose doing exactly that? I've seen it a lot. Drives me nuts when I do.

                Sailed over the crossbar maybe.

No grapevine - eyewitness account... Rivers lost because Govs midfield shut down Rivers attack. That's a fact! They only had a lead for 10 minutes of 100 minutes played. C'mon Rivers, just say congrats and move on.

Just read the recap of the game on Globe online. Looks like like a Ham sandwich is better than Bacon - at least when it comes to winning a NEPSAC championship.

Pretty impressive for a teams first year in class A.
