Just an early look, stats are deceiving however, when factoring in strength of schedule you have to give Nobles the nod. Groton and Rivers currently @ the top of the table, but each had a couple of easy games.

First of all what you have listed is the overall records, about half of which are not ISL games and mean nothing in ISL standings, although they do mean a lot once the NEPSAC playoff teams are being selected.

I believe when just looking at ISL records, Groton leads with three wins, St Marks, Rivers and Milton are tied with two wins each. I believe Nobles has played only one ISL game so although I agree with you that it will be in the top few teams it has done nothing yet to be chosen the breakaway leader (for instance beating a BB&N team 6-0 is also an easy game).

I would put Groton, Nobles and Rivers as the top 3 ( no particular order )
followed by a group of 5: Brooks, Governors, Milton, St. Marks and Thayer ( no particular order )

Just suggesting ties against WA and loomis are a little more indicative of a teams strength then wins over Cushing and Holderness. It's early, but barring injuries, Nobles has to be at the head of the pack.

Personally I don't view the first week and a half of the private school games to be an indication of anything as to the whole season. Especially this year with all the pre-season rain-outs and the large number of senior graduations at so many schools. Coaches are still figuring out what line-ups work and what freshmen and even sophomores can really play and can step up to fill the big shoes that left. In another week or so we'll see real trends start to take shape as line-ups firm up and ISL play really kicks into gear. The occassional game against the better schools outside the ISL will start to mean something in October, but not really so much in the first two weeks of September. By October 17 it will be clear where the top 3-4 teams are headed.

The most interesting result to me is the Milton win over Groton. Perhaps folks have been over looking Milton as a contender for the ISL crown?

Way too early to be thinking about the NEPSAC playoffs, but just curious if Groton is still in Class C or have they moved up to Class B? Actually I would like to confirm the class level for each of the ISL teams. I know Nobles, Milton, Brooks and BBN are Class A, and I think everyone else is Class B with exception of St Marks, who is Class C, but does anyone know for sure?

Seems like they are playing what resembles soccer pretty well.

With only one goal against BB & N can we assume SM lacks a scoring punch?

They play Noble next. Don't expect a win, but if they keep it close, it may be a true indicator that the grass is getting greener in Southborough.

I'm pretty sure Groton was promoted to Class B after their performance last year.

I saw about half of the Groton game today. Milton's first goal was early in the game off of a Groton defensive mistake. I didn't see the second one.

Milton is a good team. They have 3 very good players and no real "holes". They also have good team speed at the outside positions. I think it was the speed that allowed them to beat Groton. Groton out-possessed Milton, at least in the first half, but couldn't penetrate enough to get solid shots on net. Groton also has some work to do on defense. A lot of defensive mistakes leading to dangerous opportunities for Milton. I guess the coaching staff has some work to do after all!

great that SM is doing so well, but lets not get carried away. BB&N gave up 13 goals last week in two games, so a 1-0 win over them is somewhat disappointing. I would expect at least a three goal differential in a win by Nobles.

But remember history, St marks were 1-8 the last 9 years and only scored 1 goal.....so any results with wins and shutouts for St. Marks is a positive for them...

Totally agree. Just saying exactly that. They have improved dramatically, but are nowhere near the top yet.

As to Milton, this is their first quality win of the season and Groton had only one ISL win before this as well. Perhaps Groton was over estimated going into the season.
