Maybe better than 15 years ago. Wasn't around watching then, so I wouldn't know.
You just described soccer in this country period. CLUB INCLUDED.

GD may be a D2 school, but could easily take on the D1s, including Algonquin. Central Mass D1 has been a joke for a while, with a few good players on each team, but mostly mediocre soccer players/big/strong/aggressive athletes. GD has somewhat of a similar mix this year (including DAP players - critical as far as leadership & skills go), plus a solid keeper. This changes from year to year, of course. Next year, for example, Algonquin (with whom I'm most familiar) will have very little senior leadership, and be very young. Unless other CMass teams are weak, it'll be a tough rebuilding year for the school, which is not used to losing at any level.

Yes, agreed: they're in the same position this year that St. John's (Shrewsbury) was in last year, and Algonquin will be in next year. You can tell a lot by JV - Leominster's was not very strong last year, St. John's was better, Algonquin's only had one club player, I think. I think we're in for quite a bit of not amazing soccer in Cmass in the next few seasons.

Not really. Some teams have their freshmen and sophmores (and quite a few) up on varsity. Gonk has at least 5-6 freshmen/sophmores on varsity. How has St. John's been this year? If they have a losing record again, coach could be in hot water.

You tell me?? St. John's doesn't put it's freshmen & sophs on varsity, and as far as I know, KM at Algonquin confines his freshmen/sophs to MPS kids (including his own freshman son!!!), which doesn't really say much about their ability, just that he has a bias toward kids with rich parents who can afford to pay a lot to play for club.

I did think SJ had a good jv team last year, don't know how many seniors they lost, and this is the last year for a while where Algonquin has a large group of seniors playing together. All I really hope is that the games are somewhat competitive. The HS soccer I witnessed last year was really not very inspired.

St. John's (as well as other programs) will put freshman/sophs on Varsity if they are good enough. Why is the excuse always politics.

Come take a look at some of the Gonk kids sometime. Small & sickly looking. Decent soccer players for their size, but ridiculous to have 120 pounder up against a 190 lb senior. That's why we're seeing so many injuries, including serious concussions. But whatever. As long as the coach (and more importantly, parents) are happy.

Your opinon just shows why soccer in this country sucks. It is not about the size of the player, it should be about the talent level of the player.

St. John's certainly does and always has. What crack are you smoking?

You're right - it shouldn't be about club affiliation either. When the Gonk was winning state championships, the team wasn't made up of little kids, though. You can't tell me that KM isn't trying to build an MPS high school team for his son. That's totally what it looks like.

Your post just showed how moronic you are. He is going to build the best team possible.

Gonk struggled vs North. Actually got out shot. Goals game from a 40 yard free kick and a ball the GK dropped. However a win is win
