I had this email forwarded to me. Has to do with rule changes for next year.
Current Soccer Rule:
77.1.5 Mouth guards are required for all soccer players while on the field.
Proposal:
Mouth guards are highly recommended for all soccer players while on the field.
Verbiage for justification:
“The “highly recommended” language currently exists for the sport of basketball, a sport with a higher incident rate of orofacial injuries than soccer, so it would be logical and equitable to adopt the same language for soccer mouth guards.”
In the same document:
Current Basketball Rule:
66.1 Mouth guards are highly recommended for all basketball players while on the court.
Proposal:
Mouth guards are required for all players in boys’ and girls’ basketball.
