Youth soccer has lost its mind. At what point did people decide that "professional coaches" were the way to go. This has fundamentally changed the approach to the game and in no way has it been a successful one: the lack of success in all levels of the game in the international arena continue to bear this out. The game is best taught with a few basic skills instruction and then playing. Our reliance on the coaching ranks is ludicrous and very few can own up to the failure of the money that flows into the coffers of these so called "professionals". It's u11 for God's sake; get a grip.

Agreed. On a more basic level, am I the only one getting tired of junk on this site? Am I the only one that believes that none of this is a good example for the kids and none of it is what makes a mature adult?

So should we not teach life lessons during athletics?

That always was considered a primary function that seems to have been lost because of the creep of commercialism and professionalism of youth sports. Way too many adults involved that look at these kids like they are professional athletes playing a professional game.

There is a difference between a professional coach and a professional youth coach. A professional youth coach would actually know what is appropriate for the ages they are coaching and this "professional" obviously doesn't know that.

We have gone from the world of soccer moms and dads coaching who knew little to nothing about the game to coaches who have had some higher level playing ability as in the case of this coach. Now we need coaches who understand the ins and outs of coaching various age of the children they work with.

I am disgusted at how much attention and pressure is being put on 9, 10, 11 year old girls.
These soccer players are just kids. What difference does it make if they win or lose, play up a division, or play in NEP, MAPLE of MASC? We pay these clubs big money for what I thought was to develop and teach our kids the skills to play soccer at a higher level when they reach HS or for the very few who will play in college.

A coach should not every lose their cool in front of their players. Players take on the attitude of the coach and will copy what they do during the game.

And so don't parents. The coaches set the tone for the whole team experience.

What is it about the nefc coaching staff, from coaching HS to U11, that you read about them on TS all the time. Used to think that it was a few isolated problems, but now it just seems like problems follow them everywhere.

For the most part, they are children coaching children. There is very little attention paid to time served as a coach in youth soccer. We continue to import these fine looking, great accents, they must be "great coaches" and what nobody understands is that these young men and women can't get jobs coaching gym class in the UK. It has perpetrated itself into one of the finest scams as it preys upon the gullibility of every parent who wants the best for their child. And this is true at all clubs, not just the big ones (who of course, charge a bit more for their babysitters).

One ref per game in the NEFC tournament and kids reffing MAPLE games. The kids are afraid to blow the whistle so nothing gets called and kids are getting hurt. Something needs to be done.

Agreed, but usually these younger games are reffed by younger referees which would make the whole situation that much worse. I've seen plenty of adults get in the face of a young teen doing a game over the years.
