I guess I'm missing something. Since when is promising returning players a roster spot illegal or Immoral? My daughter has aged out but it was common practice to offer a group of the players advance contracts with the stipulation that they needed to come to tryouts for the benefit of the whole team. The ones that didn't receive them had to try out and also knew that they might be best trying out elsewhere.

Neither U12 team (Pioneers or WU) played NEP this year, so the loophole is there for the NEP not to take any action.

WU and Pioneer parents and players who want to stay with their clubs, please feel free. The rest will move on. That's the way it goes. Deal with the reality of club soccer and PLEASE stop using the word "loyalty". There is no loyalty and never will be until it starts at the top.

Wake up parents. There is no loyalty in club soccer. If clubs and coaches aren't loyal to their players or their club, then why would you expect the players and parents (who foot the bill) to be loyal? That is just ridiculous. Once you accept the reality of how things work, you can either decide to continue in the club system or leave. Until then, stop trying to impose morals, ethics and loyalty on a system that is driven by money.

BTW, for those of you complaiing about roster spots being promised by RL prior to tryouts, justify this. I know for a fact that EM (Pioneers) promised last year's U11 team (from srping 2010) that if they chose to return/"try out" again, they were guaranteed a spot on the U12 2010-2011 team. He promesed this in early May 2010, over a month before tryouts.

Also, for the record, I do not condone or support this type of behavior, and I certainly don't teach my children that since everyone else does it, then its OK. That is why our family has chosen to stop participating in club soccer. (Before you all start attacking my kids saying they probably got cut anyway, both have been recruited by STARS.)

Either accept the good, bad, and ugly about club soccer or move on.
can't compare EM's team with the stars. EM had an established team, and invited his players back, for those who chose to stay. don't recall stars west having a U11 team last year. If they did, i have no problem with RL welcoming girls back for the following season, and adding to the roster with a tryout. you see that in all sports. nice try.

you are not missing anything. It is common practice, and neither illegal or immoral. What stars west has done is very questionable.

WU was an NEP Club as of January and has at least one team playing NEP this season. The NEP recruiting rules talk about "clubs" and not "teams" probably for this very reason.

If a player initiates contact with a coach during regular season play, the coach must ask the player if they are committed to another NEP club. If so, then the player will be asked to inform their current club of their intent to try-out for another club before any further action may be taken. Players may not attend training sessions as a "guest" whilst playing for another NEP club. The League expectation is that clubs will communicate clearly and honorably through this process.

            Forgot:

Coaches are not allowed to contact any players from another NEP club during regular season play. Contact may only be initiated by a coach during the stated time frame for try-outs.

            Loophole, I think not.

Why must you people rehash stuff that's already been gone over. Let me sum it up this way, the way I remember it. RL contacted no one. He held clinics any one could attend. It was agreed that the club, stars west, had a right to hold those clinics. The nep recruiting rule was established long after the clinics began. I believe the rule was established very end of march or beginning of april (or end april, beginning of may?). it was researched on the nep sight. So no rule violated. I guess you are entitled to your opinons, but they are just that, personal opinions. You can cry all you want about a rules violation but sensible people know no rule was violated. For whatever reason you are attacking, i would suggest it is time to take a breath, try and be happy where you are at and just let it go.

Ok assume you are correct, which you are not, but assume you are. When any WU players showed up RL had an absolute duty to invoke the rules. These "clinics" went on well past whenever the rules were first posted so that loophole doesn't exist either. No whining here, I don't care, but the guy clearly did not follow the rules, defending him is really pathetic. Are you really saying what he did was OK? Also, have you notice how all the posts about it stopped? Wonder why that happened???

I guess I am defending him. I am corect. Look it up yourself. I wont do the research for you. I do think what was done is o.k.. All the stars west did was advertise on their websight for clinics. They contacted no one to attend. Families contacted him to attend those clinics. When families contacted him, i'm sure they didn't want their own clubs knowing at the time. You can try and criticize those families for not letting their clubs know, but I can understand why they wanted anonymity at the time. RL was under no obligation to inform clubs after the fact. You can't expect enforcement of a rule for people that had certian expectations when they originally signed up. If you do then we will have to agree to disagree. However i think any reasonable person without a personal involvement in this would agree with me. The way I remember it, all the posts stopped after the dates of the rule were posted and it was actually learned that in fact, no rule was violated. What is pathetic is the persistant insistance of wrong doing, even after being provided with evidence to the contrary.

Great lawyered-up, rose colored version. Everyone knows the WU manager knows RL and thru her they put together these "clinics" to move players away from WU and created Stars West United, cute name too, needed the United no doubt.... They also invited Pioneer players and others in the area they deemed worthy. Perhaps a few stragglers innocently wandered in not knowing what was really going on. These were not $150 per season clinics, but bring a few bucks for each session come as you please. It is also known that last month they basically put the team together and offered slots and asked for commitments. It was NOT up to the families to contact their coaches, that was RL's duty under the rule. There was no "after the fact", these sessions were run for months after the rules came out. Since it was pay as you go, your argument as well as the true facts speak volumes. Since the rumors of investigations started people were told to stop posting. Your call on what you want to believe but I have heard the same exact story from 2 different people out west who are actually involved, one WU and one Pioneer. Glad my clubs drama stops at 495.

Forgive me for not taking your word for it. I sense your hostility and this is affecting your credibility. You will have to provide more insight, which I suspect will expose yourself if you would like people to take you seriously. Otherwise you are just spewing your misguided opinions without fact. As far as I am concerned, I do know the manager. She did not contact me. My daughter did train with RL's clinics. No spots were offered. My daughter is going to the try out tomorrow. She will make the team. How do I know? She is very talented. Not just my opinion. RL himself as well as current/all former coaches and other parents say so. Contracts/guarantees can be provided after season/timeline is over and has been met. You try and distance yourself saying you are east of 495. Not buying it. But on the off chance it is true, then mind mind your own business and stop behaving like a jilted bride looking for another opportunity complain. Oh and btw, I defended RL earlier and no one ever mentioned investigations or to stop posting. It's all in your head. please cite facts, not dilusions.

Unless you are RL yourself, you can not say for sure that he did or did not contact anyone.

You are an idiot. Next time before you run your mouth, first look at the actual tryout dates. Stars West is 6/15, 6/16 and 6/18. Today is 6/14. Who needs a clue?

OMG, if this is the representation of the families going to stars west, then you can have them. Gonna be a great year with all the know-it-alls on and off the field. Let the games begin! and by the way, tryouts are next week dad of a talented player.
