I am the former coach of SDA. I recently departed MA to return to NJ and although I am a frequent visitor of the site, I no longer feel a necessity to post even when the club I helped build is attacked or occasionally praised.

However, I just wanted to say your daughter is a fantastic player and I wish her well in her recovery. Hopefully she will choose SDA upon her return to fitness!

        For the record...
        * She left the Pioneers on good terms, and played this fall in the NEP.
        * This year, she has also guested for Pioneers, WU, and SDA, and occasionally attends tournaments with town teams.
        * She tried out for ODP this past summer, and didn't make the cut. At that point in time, she was growing, which for her, resulted in losing some of her speed, and being more uncoordinated. Given the physical make-up and speed of the players chosen, she did not fit into what they were looking for. We believe that she failed to make the cut based on these things, not because she lacks ball skills, soccer knowledge, or because she left the Pioneers.
*Once word got out that she had left her NEP team over the winter, we were contacted by several clubs, but the reason she left her team was due to her injury.

Becuse our daughter has been identified as the subject in these posts, and because the soccer community is a small one, , we wanted people to know that the accusations and negative comments re: the Pioneers and ODP didn't come from us.

Good luck to all the girls this spring.

she is a great player- I read this, but do not get caught up in it- best of luck to your daughter and hopefully she recovers soon.

                    Division showing surprises

So far: WU gets a good pt today
Stars: How strong are they this year?
BB group ties White Stars (2-1 loss to Pride and tie Gunners today)
PM atop the division? zero GA ? Iron still to come on their schedule
Strong 1st half today, no help for SS Select
Pioneers possibly in trouble, will find out next week (can't go 0-3-1)
Pride still top dogs in the division

Still have make ups to play from those who went to PDA...after next week league will take shape. Stars now MUST beat NEFC M in the week 2 make up. After next week, girls are on the back 9 of the season schedule.

One note, was watching our girls today and after a soccer mommy was on her cell phone calling up soccer daddy to complain that they lost to a team who "continues to build on its reputation for cheating". Then as she barked to her daughter that the loss wasn't their fault (they had 1 shot on goal in 2nd half) she hopped into her new Lexus SUV and sped off out of sight. How come anytime a team loses, its always the horrible official, the other team who cheats or is too physical or whatever? Never a bad bounce or good play by the opponent? We've been around now for four years and is it me or is it getting worse as time goes by? God bless all these girls for putting up with their parents and all our very rational commentary :)

Late this afternoon I had my "parent" hat on for my older son's U14 MASC game, with a rare chance to watch him play after my own MAPLE game ended earlier. Anyway, the center ref seemed to let a lot of the shoving/impeding go, even if none of it was particularly violent or reckless. But certainly there were some cases where a player gained an advantage because of his fouling, and the incidences seemed to pick up towards the end of the game. When he did call the fouls, they were almost exclusively in favor of my son's team (the away team), and often times right after someone on my son's team had committed the original foul in the same sequence. Understandably, the parents of the home team, already somewhat agitated because of the lack of calls thus far, began to get more (and like I said, perhaps justifiably so) vocally agitated and started to make shouts out to the ref.

The clincher? At one point, after a chorus of "aw, c'mon ref, call it BOTH ways", the center mid of the home team yelled over to the parents to "shut the hell up already." Classic.

This board is very quiet today. There were various sizes of humble pie served to all the to blue division teams this weekend

Guess that result killed the Stars West momentum.... Hard to poach a team that beat you like they did with the older WU girls.

There is no momentum to kill. Anyone looking to wear a Stars West jersey is day dreaming. If you are good enough to play for Stars, your going to Stars not Stars West.

That is like buying a Hyundai because it looks like a Mercedes Benz. A good car and from a distance it even looks like a MB on the road. H/E when you get up close and see it; you see that it will still struggle versus the BMW's on the road.

In the end, you will see what it really is. A fake. That dog just won't hunt. It is made to look better then it really is. No matter how you paint that picture, Stars West is still just what it is. Western Mass players bouncing around from club to club searching for the grass that is greener or in this case sky's of blue!

Goes to show how bad it is in Western Mass. When everyone there knows that two clubs living out there now in WU and Pioneers do not keep up with the reality which is FC Stars and now NEFC. So what does RL do? Stars a third club in the area along with the other start up in FC Mass.

Now that is how to sell a good idea. Take limited resources in the number of players that have the ability to play and do well and divide them up into four teams. Brilliant thought process!

NEFC, Stars, Scorpions or any club for that matter will never have to worry about a Western Mass team. The dumb wonna be idiots that go out and start new club after new club and thin out the pool of players and never allow a true team to become a reality.

So I ask this question to those who may be dreaming; why would you as a parent not just go play for Stars? If your daughter is that good and that dedicated to playing the game, what are you waiting for?

So, I agree with your post. It killed the momentum of Stars West. It is easy to kill what is nothing more then a dream. All you have to do is wake up and smell the coffee.

This is not an issue unique to Western Mass. All over the state, there are more clubs than the geographical area will support at a high level of quality. In Eastern Mass, the population is larger but the density of clubs is correspondingly larger.
