Not every transgression a 17 year old commits merits equal punishment. At least in the world of the sane.

I guess ruining somebody's life over a 30 rack of beer at a dorm party makes sense to you. What do you think about Spader getting life? Maybe probabtion or a suspended sentence?

Cujo, that's because the person who made that post jumped to consclusions probably as he or she has done throughout this entire thread. He or she thought you were talking about a gun not beer.

      Cujo,
I am not trying to be insulting....
What is the NFHS punishment for "taunting"?
Wouldn't this be AT LEAST equivalent?
Remember, HS rules treat the sport as an "extension of the classroom."
Moreover, HS rules make no distinction about fouls being committed against players on the other team. In NFHS, you can even commit "dangerous play" against a teammate.

I haven't read the whole thread, but certainly this sort of behaviour merits game suspensions. You must agree, right?

Nobody saw or posted an injunction. There was no injunction.

This globe article uses quotes from the petition for the injunction:

        http://www.boston.com/yourtown/needh...lleged_hazing/

The quotes strongly suggest that more than one parent joined in the petition for the injunction. Yes, it was one lawyer-parent who filed the petition, but until someone can post (or-repost) the petition for the injunction, all we have what the Globe has published.

Even if only one parent wanted the injunction, the article quotes e-mails from several other parents who wanted the school to change the punishment.

Are you calling me a liar? I saw the injunction and it was stated as I said. As I am not a Needham parent the only place I would have seen it was here or in the links given.

So using potential for punishment/penalty as a deterent is really a farce? Don't enforce the penalty as previously presented as the consequence, but rather figure it out after the infraction has occurred? It's ok to do it, because the punishment won't really happen anyways?

Nice try to divert the topic, but it's in there somewhere. If you recall, early in the discussion the parent who filed the injuction was referred to by intitials. Txxxxx D Wxxxx IIRC. Eventually his whole name was given and given because the actual injunction was posted.

Even if the school gives the idiot his job back, the dude should be banned by NFHS.

Nah, it's not that important to me that I'll take the time searching the 50+ pages to look for it. You'll have to wait for whomever originally posted it to "prove it".

This whole situation appears to have morphed a lot in the last day or so. The parents and lawyers appear to have taken over and I hope the kids still have a voice as the path being headed down could well lead to their prolonged media exposure and adverse effects on college etc and that would be too bad. Are the kids dead set against accepting their punishment or is it the parents? The other layer on this is the impact on some of the parents/coach and their colleagues that have a stake in camps. sports facility, coaching etc that could take a hit here and I hope the kids don't get dragged along for the wrong reasons.

I wouldn't worry about the kids futures too much. I suppose anything is possible, but forgiveness (or maybe just forgetfulness?) is likely just around the corner for the kids.

Case in point? Liz Lambert is playing again....LMAO

I am not a Needham parent or a lawyer but initially felt if the rules were broken then those responsible had to accept their medicine. I also felt that it was really stupid of parents of those suspended to take this thing to court. However, my opinion has "morphed" to some degree by the additional information that has been presented. IMO from what I have learned simply by reading ALL the newspaper links and following the timeline, the seniors on this team may be guilty of breaking a hazing rule, but they are not guilty of bullying nor was their intent meant to demean their younger teammates. This seems to be supported by the parents of at least some players who were hazed. In addition to that the punishment seems excessive and prompted by the media's involvement. Those initial media reports appear to have some of the facts wrong, yet people continue to base their opinions on what might be misinformation. This seems a perfect example of vigilantism without the actual hanging. It doesn't seem a lot different than the character assassination that take place in Facebook and other social networking sites that has been the underlying reasons bullying has become such a hot topic these days.
