If you take a look at this ESPN RISE web site, there is a vast difference in the number of 2010 graduates committed to colleges from MA vs the 2011 commits.

The 2011 list currently shows the following number of kids from MA:
      D3: 1
      D2: 0
      D1: 8
A total of 9 kids from MA listed.

The 2010 list of kids from MA is very different:
      D3: 28
      D2: 0
      D1: 19
For a total of 42 kids from MA listed.
(One kid, AB, appears on the 2010 list for Bryant, and on the 2011 list for Holy Cross).

I think everyone will agree that more than 9 Massachusetts graduates will end up playing college soccer next fall. And I think we all know kids from last year and from this year that are committed to colleges that aren't listed on ESPN RISE.

So can we please stop pointing to this web site as the definitive source for college soccer commitments?

        Another DAP spin?

Where do you get that from? DAP's not mentioned at all. Perhaps your anti DAP paranoia has gotten the better of you.

Why are there so many more kids from MA on the list from 2010?

ESPN Rise had most of the 2010 D1 kids on it last year. The site is weak for D2/3. I think this was a weaker year for MA soccer.

If I read the post correctly, ESPN Rise had 28 2010 graduating kids from Massachusetts as commited to D3 schools. How is that weak for D3? And it's hard to blame the web site when they are dependent on parents & kids sending them the information.

When it's all said and done you will probably have the same number for 2011 as 2010, except that D1 will be less and the difference will likely fall into D2. D3 will probably be the same.

So.......the question is do we think this class doesn't have the same quality of player as last year? Or are kids more interested in teh school than the socceer program?

I don't think you can call up the 2010 ESPN D3 web page any more, but I recall most of the 28 D3's coming from word of mouth, not ESPN. And I'm not blaming ESPN; it's not their problem. I just think that there have not been as many talking soccer posters letting us know like there was last year.

Can only speak of the players I know, but there were a number of 2011 players who were not thinking D1 from the beginning, but rather looking for smaller college academic fit rather than a D1 soccer program. Since there is very little soccer money on the boys side can't say I blame them.

for d1 the list is very accurate for the most part, however for d2 and d3 the list is extremely inaccurate. it is also safe to say that the 2010 class had much more quality than the 2011's

My son plays D3 and he was listed on the ESPN Rise 2010. Not sure how his name got there. I never told anyone.

                                Based on what data?

And 2010 wasn't even that strong. 2009 and 2008 were stronger.

One possibility in addition to 2011 being weak is that some of these posters are correct....DAP is making a big difference but the greatest impact is on the MA DAP kids. DAP as a national program is actually hurting the MA DAP kids more than the non-DAP kids. Spots that previously might have been taken by upper-tier local kids (now playing DAP) are going to better DAP kids from other areas.
