I'm confused
Can someone help me? I've read over and over (and over) that the D1 recruiting is over for 2011 players. My problem may be that I read this forum. :)
But, here's an addition to BC (congrats to the SFV player, btw).
So, my confusion is about "commitment". Since BC just sent out their decision letters last week, is commitment to mean, going to the school or going and playing? thanks

Yes, how could there now be at least 2 commitments to D1 BC for players who committed without and/or before ever playing DAP???? Doesn't make sense, and that's not counting all of the non-DAP D3 commitments. Maybe the DAP folks don't consider BC a real program, and how in the world did the coaches see these kids??? The headline of the post you responded to specifically says SOCCER verbal commitment so you would think he intends to play.

Remember that "committed" does not mean "recruited".

If you think either of these players is going to get significant time, you know the game less than you think you do. Terrific kids, good players. But you are in need of a reality check.

PLEASE tell us at least a couple of the DAP success stories where playing DAP made the difference in a player, locally, getting recruited and becoming a big star.

Good luck, but you're starting at a disadvantage.

Donovan/Duke/DAP gave him National Exposure
Van Riper/Loyola
Nugent/Lehigh Somewhat hard to evaluate GK's. Both Bolts GK's go D1
Pettiglio/Davidson National Exposure with active dad
Cantave/NE Bolts/NE connection
So five MA D1's who really were part of the DAP process.

^^^^ Can you make the case that any of them or more than 1 or 2 wouldn't have ended up where they did or at a comparable school without DAP? Your reply does not demonstrate that. Maybe Van Riper. You credited Pettiglio's Dad. Cantave? He grew up and went to HS about 5 miles from the Northeastern campus. Don't think he needed the DAP "showcases."
There may be a disadvantage for other kids, but the data prove that others can get there. BC, Harvard, UMass... just off the top of my head for non-DAP kids. The overall numbers are actually poor for both DAP and non-DAP, but especially for DAP given the hype.

What is indisputable is that you get a much better CHANCE of being exposed to more coaches in a wider geographical area as a DAP player because more coaches recruit at DAP games & events. So why wouldn't you allow your kid the best chance at the most exposure if he wants to play high level soccer and get a good education?
I'm reading all this back and forth arguing, but I don't see the negative to maximizing exposure and opportunity.

For how many kids does nationwide exposure matter? Any Bolts or Revs that are now playing on the West Coast, or are there even any who would want to? Donovan appears to be the furthest away and he already was known by the Duke coach who had just moved from Massachusetts. The majority of Bolts and Revs commitments are local (meaning New England/Northeast) or Mid-Atlantic. The same players could have been seen by the same coaches without playing DAP and in fact non-DAP players are seen by these coaches. The process may take more work for the non-DAP players, but if they are good enough they get seen and recruited.
The single most important factor is whether a kid is good enough. I agree that a high percentage of the better players gravitate to DAP, but I don't see the data that DAP makes them better. In those cases, they already were better. And I don't see the data of how DAP results in more successful recruitment (as distinct from simply broader recruitment). My kid can get in a college in all 50 states, but that doesn't mean he's interested in more than a handful of them. There are DAP and non-DAP kids who would have ended up at the same or similar places regardless of where they played. And there are also DAP players who have played DAP for 3-4 years, including PG and/or gap years, who apparently still have not landed anywhere. It is a fallacy to suggest that DAP is the only way or even that it plays a critical role. It is only true that very good players are attracted to the product and that they get in front of coaches, and folks like you use that to say something about DAP that isn't necessarily true.
