Sure, an occasional kid might not go D1 because he/she has heart set o0n a semester away, but they are outnumbered by the parents who are not realistic for years, get their own egos out on the line (why I don't know), then twist themselves into pretzels later with rationalizations.
Exactly. You have nicely described the process that most parents go through.

Regarding the other issue about bowing out, I'd like to see some stats on how many STARTERS at Wake Forest, BC, UNC, Stanford, Duke, Maryland, UVA, Clemson, etc bow out.

Starters probably don't bow out, but player # 16 and lower on the roster, who never see the field, may bow out.

Or maybe players realize that getting good grades is a better use of their time and also know that there is no life in pro soccer.

Exactly. And the same thing happens at D2 and D3.....which goes to the point of when reality hits you in the face....then the rationalizations come.

Judging the "bowing out" factor for any level program is pretty easy - how many senior are there each year on the team's roster. You can find that info easily on program's websites. The more seniors you see, the better the program, since the players stick with it.

That is somewhat true, except you need to base it on the number of freshman 4 years earlier. So, if a school only brings in 4 freshmen and there are 4 seniors four years later, then all is well.

You are right, but there are transfers, etc as well. So the rule of thumb still stands - the more seniors, the better the program.

Waiting is tough for those who don't earn it. But that doesn't happen to mature players who develop their game in MAPLE and play DIII. Their Mom's see to that....

Thanks mom, but the link to ESPN Rise was already posted here.

PS: Don't forget to print a copy out for dad to hang outside his office at work.

                            .

When you hit the "Submit Reply" button, you probably thought you were being clever and witty. In reality, you were being stupid. But this is what you get when you let people post whose IQ is equal to their shoe size.

Those aren't links to ESPN Rise. They are links to the web sites of actual college soccer programs where the coach says a few nice things about his incoming recruiting class.

A little jealous are we? Your son not in a school playing soccer, maybe?

Dang, those trips to those professional academy camps in England just never paid off, did they?

You should read the post you are replying to before typing. The poster never said these were ESPN Rise links, but if you look at this link, you will see all sschools and their releases.
