I have no idea who the players in question are and have already forgotten the club they play for so I am addressing the general case, not suggesting that any particular scenario applies. I just think discussions are better when they are actually informed by facts.
There are a number of reasons a player might choose to play at a D2 school rather than a D1 and a school like SNHU. SNHU's strong program over a number of years might appeal to a player because the level of soccer played there might be better than the level at the D1 schools the player has opportunities that. It may be that more money is available. D2's have athletic scholarships but keeping in mind that D2's, many of which are fine schools, are not typically academic powerhouses, there is often more merit scholarship money available for a good student that the academic elite schools, some of whom offer no merit aid or so little as to be essentially zero.
Going a step further, the NCAA has very different minimum admission requirements for the two divisions. First, you must have 16 core HS courses for admission to D1 vs 14 for D2, so depedning on the requirements of the school district and whether the student/parents are savvy enough, early enough to pack in the additional courses if coming from a district with lower core courses needed for graduation, one could find themselves in a fix.
Lastly, there is a big difference in requirements for gracdes. D1 uses a sliding scale between SAT/ACT and GPA whereas D2 just has a minimum in each area. For example, D2 sets the minimum SAT at 820 and the minimum GPA at 2.0. If a D1 prospect has an SAT of 820, a 2.5 GPA is needed. No 820 SAT/2.5 GPA, no D1. On the other hand a 620 SAT and a 3.0 GPA gets you into D1, but doesn't look like it gets you into D2.
Remember that these are NCAA minimums and different schools may be looking for more to convince them that a student could survive academically. Hope that helps. Anyone entering the process should get familiar with the following:
http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/...ds-6-18-09.pdf
Keep in mind only core courses are used to calculate GPA so grades received for art, music, and the like don't average in.

All four spent a lot of time in the DAP program and were recruited to top D1 schools not from the NE region. Two of those teams are NCAA tournament teams this year.

The parents of non DAP kids continue to look upon the DAP program with envy and jealousy. These are the ones that keep the subject going. These are the ones who can't leave it alone. They are infatuated with the DAP. Obsessed with it, even. If they weren't interested in it, weren't concerned with it, and TRULY felt like it was not for them, they wouldn't talk about it. But they'll reply abd say they aren't. Actions speak louder than words. I know I don't continually harp on and on endlessly about those things I'm not interested in.
I'm really happy for any kid that gets to attend the college of their choice, no matter where they played their club soccer, what division that college program is in, or how they got in.

Post 605 challenges the notion of whether 2011 or 2010 players were recruited and landed at good schools. The story is further developed for 2010 and proves the DAP point, IMHO. My son did both and is a college soccer player now. It seems pretty obvious DAP is better for the higher level players. It's not for everyone of course.
I spoke to a former Massachusetts parent who says EVERY Boys 2011 player from the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy is going on to play for a D1 college or university. Multiple players are going to Clemson, same with Coastal. A lot of players have not posted on Rise and are not listed on their site. (12 from the Girl's team are posted, 10 boys posted.)
CESA is NOT a DAP academy. No DAP for Girls either.
It seems pretty obvious DAP is NOT necessarily better for the higher level players. It is for some players of course.
