None of the Bolts teams have been blown out and all with the addition of a few players can and will be very competitive. A new director certainly has challenges, but Tony appears to have the background, positive outlook, and personality to handle the challenge.

You keep saying this, but where are you going to draw these players?

Back to the college coaches thing; my daughter's coach is among them and did not miss a single game or practice ALL YEAR. The issue of coaches being the head coach for multiple teams within the same club is more of an issue to us, as my son went through that with a smaller club this year. How does having a college coach help? In addition to the recruiting stuff already provided in terms of helping players through the process it should also be remembered that in the majority of cases, becoming a college coach was NOT the first job held. Most have made their way up through the ranks, had involvement with ages besides college, and most run camps that offer programs to kids ages 6-18. So I'd say there are some advantages in most cases to having this involvement. And another advantage - my daughters coach stated early in the winter that seeing freshmen come in to college beat up and burnt out physically and mentally was something that worried her. So the approach to the season was not win at all costs and attend every tournament possible, but continue to help the girls develop and prepare for the next step in their careers. A refreshing approach that I think helped the girls much more than any other part of the experience.

Who knows where players come from for try outs. It could be from families moving to the area. It could be disgruntled players from other teams. It could be from families looking for a closer location due to rising gas prices.For whatever reason there are always players making changes and they are not always looking at stars or scorpions as the only clubs to pursue.

Looks like FCGB will not have a single team in D1 next year on the girls side (except perhaps at U18 if the U17's win their promo/releg games). They will not have a MAPLE team at U14 unless the U13 A team comes thru in the qualifying tournament and they won't be fielding a team at U17.

The new DOC will have a major rebuilding project on his hands.

It may be premature to predict no Division 1 slots as I think the U12 Bolts are still in contention for D1. In any event, no one can predict the future, except to say nothing stays the same.

Remember, 9 years ago there was no Stars club and up til 6 years ago it was a one team club. Sometimes all it takes is one dedicated person to make a difference.

U12 Bolts were knocked out of the Irwin Cup, correct?

Nonetheless, agree that one never knows what will happen and than things can change quickly.

Who is Melisa Colwell? If you do a Google search, it is probably Melissa Colwell and looks like she played at Worcester State.

Just to end the curiousity...Melissa did play for Worcester State and has had experience coaching Maple Teams. She was the head coach for a few years with PUMA for a girls team that was 1st in the top division

You must be from the Bolts organization. She coached a U10 team for Puma and then coached for FC United. She was never head coach for a girls team in the first division for either club.

True. We've seen how one dedicated person has made such a difference at both the Stars and Scorpions. But can someone who is also a full-time college coach be that person at the Bolts? I kind of doubt it.

Meanwhile, I would think there are plenty of talented girls who would gladly be coached by the Bolts' new coaches, even if it means playing at D2. But I guess we won't know until tryouts. It's a shame for the Bolts that the rising U15 team couldn't manage to stay at D1. A D1 U15 team with the new DOC as coach might have been a formidable one.

This is true. FC United has never had a girls team in the first division and Puma hasn't had many. Those they have had were not coached by this particular coach.

Just to follow up, it's possible the new DOC might be able to attract D1-level players who otherwise might not have considered the Bolts, although at D2 it's much less of a possibility.

Geographically speaking, the Bolts might be finding themselves boxed in on the girls side. The GU14 team had several north shore players, but who knows if they'll return? With the departure of the previous coach, the Bolts have even more of a west-suburban, Rte 128 center of gravity (also, the DOC coaches at Wellesley). That puts the club in competition for area players with the Stars, Renegades, Inter, and even Scorpions, to name just four.
