The problem is that the original post in this thread (and the responses to criticisms of it) used the same glittering generalities and name calling that it criticizes. Once you lower youself to the same level as the people you are criticizing your arguement is no longer compelling.

Simply posting the article with a brief statement would have been very effective. Instead this thread somehow feels like someone is using a heartbreaking tragedy as an excuse to call people names and trumpet his superiority. Which is exactly what is wrong with so many of the posts on this forum.

There are, however, many threads and posts that are very sane and helpful. If you sift through the garbage you can find some really great stuff. But unfortunately this thread isn't one of them so far.

I agree. The initial poster is definitely not showing any feelings for the fallen youth, but instead is using this despicable random act of violence to "RE-BASH" other posters. Poster #1 has the problems.

        Totally agree.

I'm sure when we view this year's cancer deaths VS posting regarding my kid's relative enjoyment of their team, that should cause me pause as well. Oddly I view the world's tradgedies separately from some harmless blog. Although I think I look good in lipstick I guess I'm still a pig.

I have no agenda. I didn't post an agenda. I didn't mention anything about a club, a player, or a coach. In fact, my post was probably the 3rd or 4th I have put on this forum.

The only reason I posted it is because the people like you who post here do so as if having their kid play on certain teams, for certain clubs, or behind certain players act as if it some kind of terrible tragedy. In reality, it's not all that important compared to the slaughter of an innocent kid who did nothing more than go to a birthday party. Is it a tragedy when other kids are killed? Yes it is. But I posted this because this kid was the captain of his soccer team, a recruited athlete, and great teammate. Something every parent in this forum believes are the qualities of their own children.

So the only morality based agenda I'm guilty of is trying to point out to the classless parents such as yourself is that your issues are quite so important when compared to some others who are just like you. No kid ever died because they didn't play for teh Stars, didn't start, or wasn't put on the field as a center midfielder.

Considering the over the top mentality of this forum, I'm not surprised you'd respond like you did. You can't teach class, you can't fix stupid, and even if you spray a pig with perfume, it will still be a pig.
This tragedy really hit home for me. My nephew was murdered by a gang member 15 years ago under very similar circumstances. He was 17, a top HS goalie, and one of top goalies for Va. Bch based Mariner Soccer club, and recruited heavily by colleges. I referenced the tragedy by making the same point that there are things in life that are vastly more important than who wins a U14 game on a given Sunday and it elicited some of the most insensitive posts I have ever seen. Some questioned that he played soccer or his playing ability. Several questioned the story and claimed that I made it up to improve my arguments about keeping youth sports in perspective. (The reality of the tragedy was easily verified because a soccer scholarship that distributed tens of thousands of dollars to Va. soccer players was established in his name and a tournament in his honor ran until a few years ago). Several posted that my nephew probably had it coming.

Unfortunately there are some people that will just never "get it". Until something god forbid happens to one of their own. That changes everything.

The other thing that the loss of my nephew did was cement my opposition to the death penalty. I hope the kid who pulled the trigger has a nice long life. I lost my father, step-father, brother in law, nephew, and sister in law in a five year span and those events changed the way I view life forever.

And the way I view sports.

My point is that major events like death, cancer, war; pick something really bad, don't have anything to do with everyday ups and downs. You seem to post all sorts of stupid things despite the tradgedy that happened in your family. That's fine with me. Don't think that I believe you to posess more wisdom because you intersperse some sad tales with spew.

                  RULES #1.

Be tolerant, understanding and respectful of other people's point of view. If you strongly disagree or are upset over somebody's posting, simply respond by stating your point of view. Do not criticize, censure or ridicule others for their beliefs, opinions or views. Please also take into account the difficulty many people have in expressing their precise feelings and emotions in a written message.

It is confirmed that you are not only an idiot but an insensitive jerk.

I don't need "sad tales" to prove that I have more wisdom than you. Your posts prove it.

I am guessing that you voted for McCain. You have this Republican kind of feel.

If you cannot understand the simple point that the outcome of a MAPLE game on any given Sunday is of little consequence then there really is no point in engaging you in any kind of discussion.

Your argument (I think) is that soccer is just as important as everything else in life, or perhaps unrelated to events in life, and that a 1-0 loss to the Stars is as "tragic" as the death of a young soccer player.

Just when I think the bar for stupidity has been set fairly high and new standard is established. Nice job.

Thanks for making my point. He has no trouble expressing his precise feelings. Therefore my post is not subject to this "rule". He's an idiot. I am not the only person who thinks it.

Cujo the poster is making the clear point that when you take any serious trajedy or horrific event and compare their degree of relevancy vs. posts relating to a soccer forum, of course there is no equality in level of impact. That being said, because one visits and posts in such a soccer forum that in no way infers they are somehow placing the importance of doing so over anything else.
Quite frankly Cujo if you couldn't discern that from the posts, you're sort of a moron.

What is your point? I suspect you don't have one other than disagreeing with me.

Will you please stop assuming every jerk who posts is a Republican - there are just as many jerks who are Democrat. It is amazing how narrow-minded people are.
