I admittedly have a biased opinion (parent)...but you should know that the Vipers beat Blackwatch 4-3 in a scrimmage today. I will also admit that the 4th goal was a close one....and you could call it a tie.

There is simply no way a parent of a 2nd soccer playing child is this jacked up about a U12 winning everything.
This attitude is everything that is wrong with youth soccer in particular, and youth sports in general.
It's a truly repulsive mentality, and despite all the facts and expert opinions put forth, this person refuses to accept it.
I think I speak for most people in the forum when I say, "you make me sick."

Out of curiosity I just took a look at my daughters U-12 team picture, think they where semi -finalist in states that year. Of 19 only 5 still play club at U-16.If any of the posters think scores and rankings matter at this age group your in for a rude awakening.

That's an interesting statistic. Looked at my kid's Needham championship picture from U12. By U16 only 4 of those 16 players remained on the team. Looking at the picture from the high school perspective though - all but one are still playing soccer - another club or at least in high school. One has dropped out completely due to injury. That's pretty good odds of this group that loved to play soccer

See what the stats are after High School and onto College.
1- Very difficult to make a College Team - Even D3 - shocking as that
may be
2- Even if you make a College Team doesn't mean you will start and or
play.
3. College Academics and any sport are difficult to manage
4. High percentage do not play all four years
5. And that is okay Mom and Dad -- a lot will find older leagues and play Intramural in their College.
What is at U14-18 Club, High School, MPS now does not mean the future. Very few continue on after HS for a myriad reasons and that is ok.

We shouldn't jump all over U12 Parent. As I said, his (or her) thinking is fairly common for first time parents of players this age. It's better to keep the discussion as objective as possible and provide positive arguments in an effort to convince him (or her) to see things from a different perspective. As I have said, I could have written similiar posts back when my oldest first started playing. I can remember others telling me "Soccer should be fun for these kids" and my retort was "Losing isn't very fun". Fortunately those with patience and knowledge have shown me the error of my ways. :DGood judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
