I admittedly have a biased opinion (parent)...but you should know that the Vipers beat Blackwatch 4-3 in a scrimmage today. I will also admit that the 4th goal was a close one....and you could call it a tie.

I too have a biased opinion and must admit that you are a complete idiot.

To answer your question FSM, this is notmy first child competing at this level and that's why I learned along time ago that in sports there are two different philosophies on winning. It all depends on how much you understand sports and competition and what you expect or your kid expects out of playing. I know that most people I've met that don't believe winning matters are usually people who are neither passionate about sports or someone who never played themselves. I'm sure every team in the state has both type of people, but the one's who don't care will eventually drop off. Again, I'm talking about the highest level of play and if a kid cannot compete at that level, there are plenty of other levels s/he can play. If winning didn't matter in U-12 how do teams play sub-reg. at 13, at 13 you have to win to get in reg.1, at 14 you have to win to play Red Bull and etc...Fortunately the system is not manipulated by people who believe everyones a winner. To answer your other question, my U-12 practices 3/4 times per week with one game. It's funny to hear people like Cujo down parents when some parents like myself, coached many many youth teams and played sports their entire life including college but yet we're idiots on the sidelines who don't know nothing. I understand every aspect of the game and that's exactly why I feel the way I do.
Someone needs to administer a lie detector test to this person.

There is simply no way a parent of a 2nd soccer playing child is this jacked up about a U12 winning everything.

This attitude is everything that is wrong with youth soccer in particular, and youth sports in general.

It's a truly repulsive mentality, and despite all the facts and expert opinions put forth, this person refuses to accept it.

I think I speak for most people in the forum when I say, "you make me sick."

Can't wait until these kids reach U14 or U15. Those MPS thread records are sure to fall.

Out of curiosity I just took a look at my daughters U-12 team picture, think they where semi -finalist in states that year. Of 19 only 5 still play club at U-16.If any of the posters think scores and rankings matter at this age group your in for a rude awakening.

That's an interesting statistic. Looked at my kid's Needham championship picture from U12. By U16 only 4 of those 16 players remained on the team. Looking at the picture from the high school perspective though - all but one are still playing soccer - another club or at least in high school. One has dropped out completely due to injury. That's pretty good odds of this group that loved to play soccer

See what the stats are after High School and onto College.
1- Very difficult to make a College Team - Even D3 - shocking as that
                  may be
2- Even if you make a College Team doesn't mean you will start and or
                  play.
                  3. College Academics and any sport are difficult to manage
                  4. High percentage do not play all four years
                  5. And that is okay Mom and Dad -- a lot will find older leagues and play Intramural in their College.

What is at U14-18 Club, High School, MPS now does not mean the future. Very few continue on after HS for a myriad reasons and that is ok.

It is just no use discussing the issue with you because you see it only as an either or issue. Nothing could be further from reality. Winning is a product of proper training, development at an accelerated rate compared to your peers (age and size), and being part of a cohesive team with a compatible blend of talents. Talent in an of itself does not produce wins. All I am trying to say (and all that any of the true experts say) is that winning is secondary to other considerations. The point that I am making and that you keep ignoring is that being on a undefeated and dominant team at a young age is a total waste of time. Players get comfortable and develop bad habits because it is too easy. This is why good teams seek out competition. If you want your 11 year old to be on undefeated teams because it fills some need, or makes you feel superior to others, or because you think it will mean something in the long run be my guest, but I would rather have my kid playing on a team that is competitive and evenly matches with peer teams. Kids need to struggle a little bit so they push the envelope. I simply cannot discuss the matter with you further if you continue to frame the discussion at a KINDERGARTEN level. I never said winning is not important. All that I am saying is that their are more important things in youth sports. So go paint we're #1 on your forehead and jump up and down on the sidelines when you teams wins 15-0 if it makes you happy.

We shouldn't jump all over U12 Parent. As I said, his (or her) thinking is fairly common for first time parents of players this age. It's better to keep the discussion as objective as possible and provide positive arguments in an effort to convince him (or her) to see things from a different perspective. As I have said, I could have written similiar posts back when my oldest first started playing. I can remember others telling me "Soccer should be fun for these kids" and my retort was "Losing isn't very fun". Fortunately those with patience and knowledge have shown me the error of my ways. :D
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.

Unfortunately though, many new posters here today require a good clubbing before they "get it".

Excellent post. You are dead on! All this propaganda initiates from the club hierarchy so these fools will keep writing those big checks.
