This comment is bs, its the content of the practice/training not the length of time. I'm glad my kid doesn't play for you.
    Is "51" a coach?

Again, why don't you people read the posts and really read. No wonder you have a short attention span with your kids team/coach. If you can't be bothered to read the whole thread, don't post.

I assume you misunderstood my post. My point was the driving time and its affect (or effect) on an 11 year old. Two hours in a car for an hour practice is draining on both the parents and the child.

Sometimes we are glad, Sometimes we are sad, I am just happy to see another day. I sincerely hope you enjoy your child being a child.

you mean the story of a minimally successful Broadway director being confused for a minimally successful MLS player?

Again, nobody is saying that kids shouldn't be able to play and develop but if they are not ready to participate at a high level than I don't think it's right that they play much. Ultimately it is the coaches responsibility to take players who can compete, however I think many teams take players because they either don't have enough tryout or the club wants a full roster for the money. Every kid should be able to play and there is an appropriate level for every player. I agree that kids will come and kids will go, but that's life for a variety of reasons. I don't agree that kids play soccer since 5 yrs. old and should develop their skills for years and years so that results only matter for U-14-U17. How are results at younger ages going to affect development? Are kids going to stop developing because the score of the game is kept? Most kids will stop playing soccer at the end of high school and most kids are playing for the fun of the sport and could care less if they develop into some super soccer player. Many people feel MAPLE is watered down because too many teams on too many levels exist. The highest level of MAPLE should be the best teams with the best players and the development of players should not be during the games against other top teams. Tony Diccico (not sure if spelled correctly) was referenced by someone who believes in development, and if you were to attend his practice you would see he has a system of development and that the player has to be able to achieve success in the system and it's the same with the Stars. His club has two teams in U-12, one at the highest level and one that is good and continues to develop and it's the same with the Stars, Scorps, etc... Players will be interchanged between the two teams over the years, but the top team will always be strong. They will interchange because players develop differently and at different times and Tony D. ,the Stars, and Scorpions understand this. Again, the highest level in the state is designed for the best players on the best teams, some understand and some don't, but to say U-12 results don't matter at the highest levels is not accurate at all.

U12 Parent, posts like yours affect me like fingernails on a chalkboard. Your post has so many examples of the common falacies of people's thinking who actually have very little experience in youth sports. Correct me if I am wrong, but is this your first child competing at this level?

Let me also ask you what your child's team typical soccer schedule is like? Is it basically 2 days of practice and 1 game per week?
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.

Ask your 11 year old why they play soccer, what they enjoy about it and what they want to achieve. If she is like most 11 year olds, the answer won't be: "win the U12 championship". Studies have shown that the vast majority of kids do not consider winning an important reason they play sports. It isn't until well into the teenage years where winning becomes an important factor. Most 11 year olds will forget about a loss in <5 mins while the adults will be distraught for days.

This team is not a most team. This team is not made up of most team players. This team wants to repeat. A most team should play town soccer or D2 MAPLE. This team loves to play, and plays to win.

                        Very scary....

Would love to hear what the coach's perspective is.

I disagree with this post. At this level, Maple Blue division, my daughter wants to win every game and every scrimmage. She doesn't practice in the blazing heat, the pouring rain and when all her friends are doing other things to lose. She also plays on a town team that she considers her "fun" team. But Maple for her is her "real" team.

I'm afraid you may be correct. The reason you maybe correct, however, does not make it right. Everything you say is destructive to the development of U-12 players as has been so well and amply pointed out by the other posters. The reason you are correct is because there are so many parents of U-12 players running around with the same misguided notions as those you possess.

100 % right on!! If more parents/coaches felt this way than Maple would be a more competitive/respected league. As it stands now, anyone can play maple. How many times have we seen a kid who did not make the team and daddy starts a new team to accomadate that child rather than having that child work that much harder to acheive his/her goals.
