Questions on ECNL
From Pa, and my daughter is u13. Trying to figure out if ECNL is worthwhile. I have heard from some in my area that the competition is kind of sketchy. Elite clubs doesn't mean elite teams. Most clubs don't have 5 equally strong teams u14 thru u18. So some teams may be high quality while others, not really, just in it because their club met the qualifications needed to be accepted. Is playing in the youth national league a better option? I don't have the answers and am looking for opinions. I have heard the expense is outrageous as well. Any informative opinions would be appreciated.

If we were to pool up the talent and make a few super teams I'm sure we would be better off but it is up to the club to draw those kids in and many question the purpose at the end of the day, like yourself.
Talking to friends who had a family member in ECNL out in Colorado, he withdrew his kid after 1 year from the team because it wasn't all it was sold to be.
His kid plays local instead and on a top club but does not do the ECNL team since it wasn't consistent enough for what he paid. Traveling all over for games goes to another level in ECNL.

Our U14s had a playing time issue and some members pulled out but they have reloaded and should be strong this year. The competition is very strong for the most part. The club fees are the same as our old club. The travel has maybe one or two more tournaments but we only flew 3 times. Fla., San Diego and Chicago. Some people drove to Chicago and Fla..
We enjoyed the travel. The good thing is, you know where you are going in August, so you can really plan for all these trips very early. Since we used to travel on our old club team, probably at least 1 ot two flights a year, we have not seen a great increase in what we paid out once we came to ECNL. As an older team, we saw an abundance of college coaches mostly from the D1 schools, but many upper echelon D3 schools were there as well. Having been part of the ODP experience that went to regionals and a prior club team that played in 2nd tier tournaments (Orange Classic), I will say there was no comparison of the numbers of coaches that we saw this year with ECNL.
So, my advice is, if you can't get your kid on a team that goes to major tournaments, Disney, Jeff cup, etc., then I think you should try to get on an ECNL team. We had a good experience.

this feels like a troll post...that said. and in case it isn't. search the archives. we have discussed the pros and cons of ecnl versus other leagues in depth.
my families experience has been great. cost is the same, level of play is better than her previous team, my daughter has to improve, fight and scrap to earn playing time. it is a competitive environment, which dosen't fit every girl. for our daughter, so far so good. good luck finding a fit.
