I have been moderating this site since 2002 or 3. I have read thousands of threads and posts, granted they were mostly all on the Florida site, since that was the only active site back then.
For those of you that complain, there is always a moderator to contact. We did go through several months, where I was the only one, and could not get the old admin, back then, to add some more moderators, because he was too busy. Now there are 5. If you see something you do not think is appropiate, then don't just complain, but alert them all.
We are not going to an all registered site, simply because we have tried it before, and it does not work. Also, people can just change their user name and post again. For all the negativity that you think you see on this forum, IT IS NOT, as much as you think. Maybe you only read the few threads that you are interested in, and those have some posts, that should be deleted or edited. Again, contact a moderator.
A thread, a few weeks ago in Florida, said the same thing. "So much negativity", this forum is terrible. Well, I spent that night going through and reading all of the threads on that forum. There are 50. I remember that there were actually 2 that were problematic, and that I was watching those, and editing. There were 2 threads that were just funny, or stupid, and rest, half were clubs or teams talking about the games, standings, and so on. (There was some smack talk, but that is to be expected). The other half were talking about soccer, the WC, questions about an issue, or refs talking about some beach ball" that they had seen on some video.
I know, in the Florida forum, that the only time you see kids posting, is during state cup, and tryouts. Those posts are easily identifiable. My son rarely read this forum when he was in club. Reason was, that most of the threads on here are about topics that kids are not really interested in. Yes, I know that some kids do, but I bet there are far less than one might think.
Anyway, about trolls. If post starts out by saying that x team is really good, and it sounds a bit over the top, then 99% of the time, it is a troll from another team. If a poster starts a thread about a topic that is controversial, about clubs or teams, AND it has been discussed before, and ended up with viscious posts, then it is probably a troll. If you keep seeing a post come up on a thread again and again, from pages back, it is a troll with an agenda.
Well, I have said my piece, and if you take anything from this, it is to be proactive, rather than lax. Don't complain and do nothing. If you see a flame war erupting, then contact a moderator. If you see players names used in a negative manner, or slander used when commenting about a coach or a DOC, then again contact a moderator. Sometimes a thread will come up and be so popular, that there may be 5 pages within the space of a couple of hours, and the moderators simply did not notice or read all of the pages. Again contact and notify.Last edited by thebes20; 11-11-2009, 08:09 PM.

I can't identify a name but MPS web site list the Scorpians as a team playing in their Thanksgiving tournament. That is consistent with a poster that often speaks ill of the Scorpians. It's easy to see the pattern based on the consistent incorrect spelling of Scorpions.

And most of the negative posts about the scorpions are from NEFC parents and all of the negative posts about NEFC is from Scorpions.

And when this club stumbles and falls, which they all do at some point, they will regrete the huge amout of ill that has built up against them. Try good sportsmanship. It's not just classy, it's smart.
