having done both, I would say that the difference (which can be substantial) is not because of hotels and car but because the flights are about twice as expensive to Orlando. That is a bit of a recent change and due largely because of the timing, but for a family of four that means an extra $1000 or so. You also have an extra day and a whole lot more off-field activities. If you treat it like any other tournament (no theme parks), stay the minimum and go with only one parent - it might be about $500 more than Raleigh. just about every college coach goes to Disney, including R1 coaches and lots of NESCAC schools, so it isn't the extravagant waste portrayed by some but CASL and PDA will be comparable. BTW, I don't think it is a lock that NEFC will get into either CASL or PDA. Probably CASL because there is no ECNL or USYSA NL tie in this year but PDA is a long shot.

The issue is the timing, not the location and as a result you are paying holiday prices on everything that you would not pay going to CASL. The same holds true for the Orange Classic, although you don't have the cost of theme parks to add in.

All of this sort of relates to what BTDT had said about going to Duke to become a school teacher when you can become a school teacher for a whole lot less going to Framingham State.

Speaking of the cost of an education (I'm assuming that's what we're talking about), how 'bout this in Yahoo this morning?

More people are going back to college and taking on huge debt to do it, despite questions about what the degree is really worth.

Last year, the amount borrowed by students and received by schools grew some 25% over the previous year, to $75.1 billion. That's a huge amount, especially with weak, low-paying job prospects for graduates in this economy.

As we've noted, all this student loan debt is crazy. Despite the desire to see more subsidization of college, we suspect there will be a collapse in student loan debt availability and desire to take on new debt.

Short of telling kids not to go to college, something's going to give.

The pop may be starting already. As Bloomberg reports, as many as one-third of all private colleges surveyed said they expected enrollment to drop in the next academic year. And almost 40 percent of those colleges said some of their students dropped out due to personal economic reasons and a quarter said full-time attendees switched to part time. Half said families had to cut back their expected contributions as the value of college savings plans dropped 21 percent last year.

Huh? If no one is speaking on the topics that interest you, maybe that is because no one is interested in those topics. If you want to talk on another subject, no one is stopping you from starting a thread. People like you are the wackos that believe others should do it for you. TAKE SOME INITIATIVE Y'ALL.

Why do parents of U16,U17 and U18 have to go to every tournament the team is playing in? Save money by letting your child go by themselves.

Cuz we like to watch our kids play??? It won't be long before we won't be able to see them play because they'll be in college.

PDA acceptance would probably depend on CASL results if they are accepted.

Not really. PDA is an ECNL tournament. That means a good portion of the U15-17 showcase spots will go to teams in the ECNL divisions. It is also a R1 tournament so they will look for some geographic diversity if possible. This can make entry for a R1 team more difficult than with CASL. Certainly the U17 NEFC girls will have some time this year to try to build a resume for PDA, but to the same extent most of the scouting attention will shift from the 17s down to the 16s and 15s by Memorial Day.

Yes, FC Puma has been accepted in BU17 - so don't be so quick to jump to conclusions re: NEFC getting "cheated". The proof will be in their results once they get there....

No they don't. Likely that a Mass champ would, but a team from Maine, Vermont or Montana would need to show a little more.
