Very true. I think Whitman coach will take their group with the 2 Mewis' and Petta on the same team. Very formidable.
Whitman-coach Regional High School wi;; do very well this year and he Coach will very likely win Coach of the Year. A couple of players can make that much of a difference.
Should be interesting to see how dominant this team is. How often does a HS team have two national team players on it?

I think Marshfield will have good team this year. They usually come to play.

I would go see a Winchester Belmont tilt in late October whether or not I knew anyone playing.
So would I. Often the Middlesex League ti*tle hinges on this game. Some very talented girls have played in these games, e.g., Winchester's Katie Brooks, Belmont's Michelle Sheehan and Laina Ceddia. Each team has an excellent veteran coach, Chris Scanlon for Winchester and Paul Graham for Belmont. Belmont won the league championship last year, while Winchester beat Acton-Boxboro in the Division 1 North tournament before losing to Masconomet.

Teams that have to slug it out in the more competitive leagues will be well tested before the tournament begins

Someone posted that the Middlesex league was week and I disagree. Watertown is week but Belmont, Reading etc usually are highly competitive. Not unusual to see a 1-0 or scoreless game. Very few blowouts except for Watertown which is a Field Hockey power.

great article and W-H is a team to watch. One interesting point, I thought the younger sister was a natural center mid-fielder? I am sure she will do great up top but wouldn't you rather let her run the field and control play through the middle?

Things can change year to year, but there are a couple of problems for the Middlesex League. First, Winchester has dominated their league like no other team in the state, having won something like 95% of all league championships. I'll agree that Belmont has also been strong. After that there is nothing great, Stoneham, Burlington, Reading and Wakefield have been decent but generally also - rans in D2 North. Second is scheduling, Middlesex teams play NO non-league games because they have an 18 game conference schedule. This makes scheduling easy but comparisons hard and I think it has shown in the tourney. It is a more consistent league than some (although Watertown and Melrose traditionally struggle) but like the Northeastern Conference, Merrimack Valley and the old GBL it is too top heavy.

I think you have the same issue in the DCL. With the addition of Tingsboro, there is no chance for non-league play. AB will most likely dominate with the only potential challenge coming from Westford and maybe Newton South.

DCL will change next year after the addition of Arlington and Waltham. It will be organized into a small school section and a large school section with teams playing the other teams in their section twice and playing the teams in the other haf once.

AB has two out of league games this year because it only plays Tyngsborough and Weston each once. I think LS is the same as they are the second largest school in the district. Not positive.
