The prevailing wisdom has been wrong so often

It's easy to look around and find something that you perceive as viable proof that the prevailing wisdom missed on that event or moment. And you phrase your "this then that" rationale to create the most skewed result possible.

You'll have to backup your claims that we "let" a million people die of malaria because we didn't want to put a proven cancer agent into our food supply.

You'll have to prove that there were scientists that said we would have 0 fish in the ocean within a decade some 35 years ago. And show us how that was the "prevailing" wisdom.

I'd really like to see your data that says we had 10 minutes to fix global warming that was stated publicly some 20 years ago.

Your only real argument is the flat earth belief, held centuries ago, when the prevailing wisdom did not yet have the ability to see or measure otherwise. How quickly that changed though once science and math began to do their thing and change the prevailing wisdom.

That's called advancement in human knowledge.

It seems to me that the prevailing wisdom today is right or wrong, it just makes more sense for us not to introduce more carbon emissions, more plastic and rely less on carbon fuels and more on renewable energy, than to ignore the possibility altogether that the scientific majority across the globe might be right.

Because if you wait long enough just to see them proven wrong, then, it's too late for those still around.

Umm...they're swing voters, also known as independents. Not republicans. Support for Trump among independents is not as negative as amongst Democrats but it is down. If he's even running in 2020 it won't take more than just a few of them in the right states to tip it the other way. His slim margin of victory in three states landed him in DC. It's the only thing slim about him.

        I don't know....

He's pretty slim about telling the truth.

He's pretty slim about his loyalty to the people that work for him.

Just this past week his approval among black men doubled.

What's going on? How can that be?

Trump was entirely wrong and using so called data that doesn't even exist. He's crediting Kanye - who now has shot himself in the foot with his slavery comment - but there is no reliable survey data available yet that will show any supposed blip.

"President Trump said in his speech to the National Rifle Association on Friday that his support among black Americans has increased since hip-hop artist Kanye West expressed his support for him. The problem is, there's no reliable data to support that claim. “Kanye West must have some power because you probably saw I doubled my African American poll numbers,” Trump said. We went from 11 to 22 in one week. Thank you, Kanye."

A few days later on April 29, a Reuters/Ipsos poll reported that Trump's approval with black men — not black Americans, as Trump claimed — was 22 percent. His approval with black men a week before was 11 percent with this poll, which uses a non-probability online sample, a methodology that a 2014 Pew Research study found doesn't necessarily accurately represent African Americans.

It's quite early to determine how differently black Americans view Trump after West's tweets. Polls released in the coming weeks will do a better job of showing whether black Americans are having a change of heart about Trump.

Other polls released this week show no significant change in support for Trump among black voters after West donned a “Make American Great Again” hat. The Pew Research Center poll released Thursday reported that only 13 percent of African Americans approve of Trump. In January that number was 14 percent. Gallup has Trump's approval rating at 13 percent with black Americans this week, up from 11 percent in February.

my argument is simple- let the actual facts make your argument- not follow the herd to a conclusion
sometimes the prevailing wisdom is right and sometimes it isn't but to use the term 10000 or 2 out 3 doctors or 97% is a way to get you to stop thinking because all the thought has already gone into the conclusion

while i believe polls are snapshots of things the pollster wants to see ( i can make a poll do anything i want it to) some are actually more accurate than others
i will agree that Trumps poll numbers really haven't changed either way since before the election- libs are getting happy
with an amazing 20 months of non stop negative news 24/7 the fact that his poll numbers haven't cratered is amazing-thats why dems in leadership are begging their members to stop talking about impeachment( its a loser argument except for the fringe) Trump has withstood the lefts best shot , Mueller will end with a whimper, the midterms will not be a blue wave but a ripple (dems will pick up some seats as has been the norm )

That's what will eventually do in the GOP - the old guys will die off at some point and many will take their racist bulls### with them. My grandfather was horrifically racist but my parents avowed to be different and break that mold. It takes generations to breed that out and as a country we still have a long way to go.
