Say Atlanta, population 6M, gets hit hard and 200,000 people catch it. That's only 3.3% infected but it also means 10,000 patients need intensive medical care just in one city. The entire state of GA doesn't have that many acute beds available. Then there's staffing and equipment issues.
the death rate of 2% is in China where they tried to hide the early cases (they died including the doctor who raised the first alarm) and haven't shown the care common to the US
will be interesting to see how Italy makes out
Vietnam said all are cured- that could mean they all died ,IDK

it could be the end of mankind or it could be just another flu, it could get wiped out with warm weather (spring)- but the first thing not to do in a crisis situation is to get crazy-which is what dems are doing- which makes me think this is just another blown out of proportion deal-not helpful
I was scared of ebola- and Obama actually brought infected people into the country and it worked out-this will as well
im betting we are in some other crisis 2 weeks from now and this is on the backburner

      Uninformed ^^^^^

Doesn’t mention what scientists have been warning of for years ....animal viruses that acquire human host specificity.

Not going to get into the weeds but Trump has better. Or sugar coat what is happening

I’m a scientist . I was never afraid of Ebola in fact I talked more than a few people down.

        I’m very concerned about this

Ebola has a very limited means for transmission but a high death rate; this is highly communicable with a lower death rate. I'm with you. With a kid studying abroad right now we're trying to stay on top of travel issues in case they need to come back before May. Fairfield U is closing it's Italian program.

Iran is already up to 18 deaths in a short time. No doubt poorer countries will suffer much more than more developed ones. Hyper awareness and vigilance helps too. Health care workers are often the first group to get hit the hardest and earliest. That's what happened with SARS, but now anyone with a fever and cough will be treated differently than a normal flu season.

              not uninformed at all
so if we have been worried about this for years then its not a Trump thing- (or are you saying its an Obama thing? if we have been worried about it for years the CDC has been working on it for years Trump isn't coming up with a cure no politician is

this is a virus just like SARS and will be dealt with by Scientist not politicians
but we hurt the cause by trying to put blame where it doesn't belong- work the problem, if we are still alive we can play the blame game after we solve the problem

the last place I would want my kid is on a plane
I assume your kid is in a European country- if they catch it at least they will have good care
but they may not catch it- put your kid on a plane and they will catch something

the hardest countries that will get hit are the ones who hide stuff from their citizens
China ,North Korea, iran- not surprising

We just FedEx'd some quality masks to them just in case they have to fly home. If their program shuts down I'd rather they take a chance flying home then hanging out in Europe longer (and costing me more money as they wouldn't have housing :)).

they sensationalize everything to the point where now a text chain is news
they start stories of 1500 words off with the phrase "if true"- because they can then write whatever they want and most will not understand that the whole story is BS

I support the free press but with that freedom comes the responsibility to not push an agenda or if they would simply follow the standards of their profession

agendas were for the editorial board now the whole news is editorial and you have to search for actual fact based content
the press has enormous power , they have squandered tha good will of the people by being partisan and now they have effectively created shadows because people don't believe them- bad **** happens in the shadows
The press has only as much power as you choose to cede to them. The media we have today exists because we citizens allowed it to happen. We prefer a world of soundbites as opposed to detailed investigation and a search for the "truth".

We allowed ourselves to be bought out by politicians who make promises mostly to get our votes and donations. We put people into office that were far more willing to put their loyalty to special interests that line their pockets and campaigns. We fail to hold them accountable for their corruption and greed.

So now we have a nation led by someone either mentally ill or simply amoral in every sense of the word. We allowed that to happen. We also allowed the opposing leadership to foster up an equally questionable and somewhat weak level of choices.

We boomers are mostly responsible for all this, since we have been in charge for many years. We failed to honor our Constitution. We let the pursuit of personal fortune and gain blind us a bit to the consequences of such a perspective.

Frankly, I look forward to this younger generation and its renewed idealism. We need it badly. I don't think it's a question of universal healthcare anymore. It's going to quickly become how to bring it about. I think college education will eventually be free or nearly so. I think we will eventually find a reasonable and workable immigration policy that isn't about walls, or religions.

I think we will find this all a lot faster if we could find a way to put in term limits and implement federal funding of elections and eliminate PACs and lobbyists. That is what will break the back on what we see now.

Amen to the ^ last 2 paragraphs. Term limits for Congress and SCOTUS plus getting big money out of elections would be transformational. Maybe I'll live to see it.
