Problem is spring may not happen either. I've stopped planning much of anything more than a few weeks out. Odds Covid is gone or there's a vaccine by March?

No way winter basketball happens. Many colleges need that as much as football.

      Does this change anyone’s minds?

That number would have been huge.
Headline is deceptive. 700 of 9000 linked with schools over last two weeks
        700 out of 2+ million = 700/2000000 = .00035

None of that matters. When it’s Covid season you are going to get Covid.
Season is finishing up in FL
Season was over here at the end of April.

I would send my kids back to school with no mask and normal occupancy with no reservations.

I find it amazing that there are no more kids getting the flu.

              1) not flu season
              2) most wearing masks, distancing, lots of hand washing and no kids in school yet

Funny how that can keep numbers down.

Son's friend thought he might have it - was tested for flu AND covid. Turned out it was neither, just a garden variety respiratory virus. If health officials want to see what they're dealing with they will have to test people for both viruses.

Cases are going down in FL because they rolled back openings and other public health measures. It is NOT because they have reached herd immunity or that it's seasonal. Oh, and it's still August in FL - hardly the end of summer there. There is no seasonality for Covid. In fact some theorize it may be worse in the fall/winder because more people will be indoors AND other viruses tend to spread more readily in the dry winter months.

"Though data on the coronavirus’s circulation during winter are scant, other respiratory viruses, such as influenza, tend to spread more readily in the winter than the summer. Noymer mentioned some possible explanations for this—that people spend more time indoors together, that the lower level of humidity suits the viruses better, that our mucous membranes get drier and more vulnerable to infection—and said he would be surprised if the coronavirus weren’t aided in colder months by these or other forces." https://www.theatlantic.com/family/a...ndoors/614965/

Southern hemisphere countries have not seen huge flu numbers this winter and they are attributing it to Covid protective measure

Like comedian Ron White said, you can't fix stupid. He probably denies climate change too.

Let me know when you read Edgar Hope-Simpson’s book on seasonality of virus. It was his life’s work of over 50 years. Maybe then you might grasp the seasonality concept.
You should stay in your lane.

No there’s now plenty of evidence that once you reach around 20% infection in a local population you reach herd or a version of herd (T cell resistance and tire immunity).

An awful lot of epidemiologists commenting today.

I agree and have been ridiculed since April for making this point.
Glad to see more mainstream coverage.
Just yesterday they had article in NY Post supporting this.

And there's plenty of evidence that isn't the case. You all were claiming Europe hit herd immunity and that's why cases went down. Yet now they're climbing up again. How can that be if there was herd immunity?

The NY Post - that bastion of well researched, scientific and fact based journalism? It's one step above the Enquirer, just fewer alien babies.

And yet it is still more factual then The NY Times.
