Also why is giving up HS always the focus? Why not look at it the other way around? From the perspective of giving up higher level club play to play HS soccer instead? Is 8-10 weeks of HS soccer so special that a kid who could be playing competitive games vs MLS academies (like playing the Revs at Gillette this past weekend) should give that up to play HS? It's always framed as a sacrifice these players make but there's two sides to that argument.
MLS will probably end up being better in the short and long term I agree ... the OP should have said MLS hardly what those clubs used to be.

I'd love to know where all these great HS programs are. The majority of HS teams are direct dump and chase. Personally, my kid looked at his HS team and saw a total of 3 kids who play club (all 3 play at a CFC branch). Everyone else is there to run around and have fun, which is great for them and I applaud that, but it sucks for my kid. Instead of dealing with this, my kid decided to play at Oakwood where he has high quality training 3 days a week, training with some kids that are going D1. This past weekend he made a lifelong memory by playing in Gillette Stadium. A lot of people on here spend hours going to war over which CT clubs are the best. Unfortunately, they don't realize these is no such thing. What's the best for you might not be for someone else. Stop being so damn judgmental and simply enjoy your kid playing because it will be over before you know it.

You shouldn't have moved to a podunk little Class S team. Even our JV and Freshman teams are filled with club players that will move up when ready.

You moved to a town based on the quality of a HS soccer program?

Why not? When I moved here I didn't have children, let alone know what extra curriculars they'd care about. As it stands, I still like where I live, kids are getting a good education, and son is happier at OW than he would be playing for a team coached by a math teacher, a substitute gym teacher and a bus driver. Sad that he can't run around with the kids he learned his ABCs with, but they are terrible soccer players.

The lower level HS programs generally are pretty bad, even a few in L and LL can be. Still many kids want to play regardless. Everyone has options

I love the hs teams are coached by a math teacher and bus driver crowd. HS coaches make about 8K a season vs the premier coach making about 2K a team. That is fact Most hs head coaches are more qualified than your kids premier coach who is only here until his visa expires. In a lot of cases the HS coaches also coach premier teams.

There is absolutely no correlation between the two. Just because the HS coach makes more money doesn't make them a better coach. Time for you to get out of mommy's basement and see what the real world is like.

i have 2 kids out and one heading off to college- they made a lot friends on their club teams
but they only talk about the big HS games when they come home
HS sports are great- its not based on quality, its based on passion, school pride, bragging rights and memories with friends

                            just my take

                              So is most club soccer.

Enough with the soccer elitism. We should all want as many kids playing the sport as possible, regardless of level.

Most kids won't recall many clubs games, but they will remember certain HS games and the coach. Friends can be made anywhere but playing for your town with kids you've grown up with is a different level.
