But keep up with the “must have never played the game” thing.

Whereas they might get comfortable and complacent against younger teams, playing on an older team will bring a variety of new challenges to push them to get better.
It’s the same thought process for deciding whether or not to switch teams when your kid is dominating in a lower division. The biggest difference is that moving up a division will lead to more skilled competition, but moving up an age group will bring more skilled players and also larger and faster competition as well.

OW kids generally need to play up to get challenged bc their teams are weak. That isn’t the case at CFC. If you’re looking to see who has had more success on both the team and individual level, it’s not even close. Team wise, CFC is stronger in nearly every age group. Individually, CFC has kids playing in D1 college programs, the US pro league, and the past World Cup. OW has kids playing up on their U15 team. Cool.

Clubs will play someone up if
1) the player will bring something to the older team. This is rarely the case. Being the top player on an age appropriate team doesn't mean you'll be a top contributor on an older team.
If you're interchangeable with most of the roster then no playing up
2) The club thinks it won't cause a flood of other requests and hurt feelings. This almost never happens.
3) They don't have enough players to fill rosters

Easier to be one of those chosen kids if your dad applied for a staff position at OW and wears one of their warm up jackets while running your practice.
*easier too be
