I had the benefit of playing high school sports and had the joy of watching two daughters enjoy it as well. The friendships, accolades, newspaper articles etc are things they'll remember forever. Both kids recruited through their club team but club sports are not the same as playing for your town and school.
Look at the trouble Oakwood is having fielding a single U17 team during prime recruiting time. It might suggest that the majority share this opinion.
Kids don't make these decisions, it's the egos of the parents that drive these choices.
I had 2 players on my HS hockey team leave to go play Juniors. Three more left our public HS to play in privates to position themselves better for college. I stopped playing baseball after my sophomore year and only played Legion.
None of this is unusual. Of the friends who moved away, some I remain friends with. Some of my old HS teammates I remain friends with. Some of my club hockey friends remain. Those I am most close to, however, I didn't play any sports with other than when we were really young.
I enjoyed my time playing HS sports. But, they were my memories. Hard to say what I would've done in today's environment. I am sure I would not have played 3 HS sports though. I likely would've played one, but if I specialized (which I should have) in 1-2 I could easily see bypassing it. But, again, hard to say since everyone is different.
I can offer my advice to her, that's all can do. If she wants to choose her own path, I will support it and not try to convince her otherwise.

Hey Uncle Rico, I bet you can kick a soccer ball a qtr. mile. Too bad they haven't invented time travel yet. You could go back. You'd definitely win States.

I'm not the ones out here chest-puffing and trying to have my kids relive any past successes. She's encouraged to follow her own path. The anti-Uncle Rico.
Next time, try to follow the bouncing ball, chucklehead.

Is it a shame they can't do both? Yes. It's only a couple of months away from DA. It would be great if they could do both.
