He is not the only one. They are listed on the DA site as their age group but actually play down. Also on the 2004 roster that is playing 2005.

So NYSC, a club that sends all their better players to NYC FC won the majority games against beachside who hordes and prevents their players from going to the top clubs. Now take those scores and imagine if NYSC also held onto their best players.

Clearly major differences in the clubs and in their process of development.

He was called into the Futures camp. The futures camp is a bio banding or Relative Age Effect initiative. So he’s perfect example.

CHICAGO (May 26, 2017) - A 64-player roster has been called to Carson, Calif. for U.S. Soccer’s first Boys’ National Team Futures Camp of 2017. The training camp, which consists of players who were born in 2002 and 2003, runs from May 26-30 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center.

In pursuit of improving U.S. Soccer’s longer term objectives for talent identification and individual development of young players, U.S. Soccer Director of Talent Identification Tony Lepore has called in the group of players for a four-day camp that will focus on identifying the most talented players in the ’02 and ’03 birth years who appear to be on a later physical development path and/or are born in the second half of the year. Such parameters serve to reduce the impact of physical maturity and relative age effect on identification and evaluation of talent.

To your point, BS doesn’t hold onto players. The best players leave and go to better clubs, that’s been shown. Many of their players went to NYSC and played against BS this weekend.

You cant prevent or "horde" players. Its the families who are scared or unable to simple go to another club. Its not hard. Contact club, go to work out, either get offer or not. Not complex. Nobody can stop you.

Why isn't he just playing on the pre academy team? Thats where his age group gets a year to grow.

That’s where USSF would have placed Messi, right

I for one give USSF kudos for giving some flexibility to try something new and not prioritizing size and speed. I saw a picture of him and he’s small. Probably very skilled too

What picture of him did you see that gave you size context? His headshot?

Does this team actually exist? What league are they in again, I forget? Is there a roster/schedule posted somewhere?

So he's 16. Hes on 16/17 roster, playing 15 games. He also has option of playing preacademy.
                        Nothing fishy at all.

Nope. A little more thorough than that. Article in his local paper after he attended Futures Camp has several pictures of him.

                              If he’s a 2003 he’s not 16

Yeah, I saw some pix too. However they are older pix and only one I saw shows any size context...the one standing next to Jermaine Jones who is 6 ft tall. The kid doesn’t look small.
