know of at least two legit OW boys who are now at Sporting. Very strange when kids go down the ladder.

Oakwood is a sinking ship. Owners have been trying to sell the club for over two years. They totally overvalue the club. Each passing season the value of the club depreciates further.

they're most likely getting better coaching than what they get at ow

these two are no bench players. One just committed to college.

Let's face it. The only thing that made Oakwood anything special was its DA pathway. Unfortunately for them, and their families, that since being in MLSN they have shown how precisely not special they are. Families are looking for other options because the "Oakwood Way" is too rigid for today's game and also it doesn't work.

MLS used to be called Boys Development Academy. MLS pro clubs wanted more say in the league and threatened to pull out so structural changes were made. The distinction between the pro clubs and the pay to play clubs grew bigger.

The girls version was GDA, now Girls Academy League. It was it's own hot mess from the start

DA was the US Soccer Development Academy which was intended to be second from the top of the youth pyramid. Players from here were selected for USYNT. US soccer chose a geographically diverse set of premier clubs to represent these academies. The system ended in 2020 pandemic and the MLS academies (most were hosting a DA) eagerly took over. Not so surprisingly this decision coincided with large transfer amounts for American players. MLS Academies realized they couldn’t play just each other economically and so they created the MLSnext and reignited many of the former DA host clubs. This creates a pool of regional opponents as well as a recruiting pool for future MLS “home grown” players and ensures any future transfer fees go into the MLS pocket and not accidentally a club like Oakwood which could have happened eventually under the DA system.

What is the "Oakwood Way"? It's an honest question, not interested in nasty answers. Thank you!
